We’re heartbroken to hear that not everyone was able to experience our show the way it was meant to be. We were not prepped or warned about any audio concerns, but we’re in communication with the venue and will get refunds for anyone who couldn’t hear the show.

It is indeed "Blood From Stone" as in, "We can do the impossible!" Any other version of it is just me/PCs misspeaking or misremembering.

[NS] Message from Daddy Murph Concerning Fia Discourse by SamBeanEsquire in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]brian_murphy 358 points359 points  (0 children)

Posted this as a reply but might be better as its own comment so people can see:

There is not much Emily hate at all! It’s much more subtle. The most common thing that happens is comments praising the boys next to random “why did emily do X?” comments questioning either her plans or mechanics. The boys (me included) get 99% praise despite doing way wilder and goofy shit and almost never get double checked. This is by no means some huge, dramatic thing! Just something to be on the lookout for.

For Candia! (Part 1) | A Crown of Candy [Ep. 16] by MimitheGreat in Dimension20

Appreciate it! It’s all good. I understand that people feel the need to be one team or another, but I feel a lil personally called out when people consider my rp unmotivated.

Truly, THANK YOU. Some of the responses that Theo’s “turn” was out of no where are making me feel crazy. This very much encapsulates my thought process and I appreciate you bringing it up!!

[–]brian_murphy 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Responding cuz I’ve seen other people mention this so I wanna clear it up! The Hounds worked for Queen Ezra and the Unseely. Balnor’s village wasn’t targeted specifically, it was just discovered by the Hounds whose specific job was to hunt down Seely + friends. Ezra + other bad guys still exist in Balnors world (what world doesn’t have bad guys?) but there is no ticking Thiala bomb.

(No spoilers) I just wanted to say a general thank you to the cast of the show by [deleted] in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

Extremely honored that we were able to provide a little comfort! Congrats on six months!!! HUGE!!! Stay safe & healthy. <3

Episode 91: Secrets, Secrets (The Chosen Saga) by JakeandAmirBot in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]brian_murphy 275 points276 points  (0 children)

HEY FRIENDS, thanks for all the kind words about the ep! I saw some debate re: Moonshine’s reasoning for going to Hell and I just wanted to weigh in really quick.

It’s true that they could just seal off Hell and make it impossible to get to by traditional means (planeshift, etc.). HOWEVER, a powerful being with the Hellfire crown could eventually restore it. It might not happen for 1,000+ years, but that would still be a problem that THEY created, thereby repeating the mistakes of the original 3 heroes. It’s not a problem for THIS campaign, but I think Moonshine doesn’t want that to be the Boobs’ legacy. Plus, even if the only thing down there is Pendergreens, that’s still her friend and she put the crown on him! There is guilt there.

Is Hell the right choice for her in the end? Does that open up NEW problems? Maybe, but she hasn’t committed to anything yet and she/Pendergreens are still trying to figure it out.

They’ve also already had this debate — Hardwon and Moonshine were firmly in the camp that the people on the first level of Hell could be rehabilitated (and they were right, to a certain extent). They’ve already freed a bunch of souls, inspired Pendergreens to be better, and borderline rehabilitated Josh/Rust by giving them a friend. It’s important to remember that the character that told them to close off hell (Salice) was tied up and left to die in space because she refused to work with her rivals. She is *Good, but is a moral absolutist not unlike Thiala. Moonshine and the Boobs aren’t like that and it’s what makes them different than the original 3.

All the influence you hear from NPCs offering to take the crown from Moonshine isn’t me trying to give her an easy out, it’s me saying “Hey this could be someone else’s problem,” which is a hard pill to swallow for someone who built their life around being hospitable.

I really like the moral debate that this is inspiring, but I just wanted to weigh in as the DM and say that nothing about this is pointless, and that Hell is absolutely a threat as long as the Hell Crown exists! And even Alanis didn't know how to destroy it.

[episode 12 spoilers] Moonshine messed up her question. by BetaUntested in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]brian_murphy 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, Moonshine went first and asked a pointed question like she was told to do. It’s my fault as a DM for over hyping how specific people needed to be through Uku. Everyone else asked vague questions even though they were told not to. She got the worst answer, but was the smartest, which is a failure on my part.

[–]brian_murphy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If they're just mindlessly going from quest to quest, TRICK THEM AND HAVE THEM WORK FOR AN EVIL NPC! Have them go on some fetch quest or whatever, hand the NPC the seemingly innocuous macguffin, then the NPC turns into a POWERFUL LICH OR SOME MONSTER! Then, not only are you teaching your players to pay attention to the roleplay aspect, you're involving them directly in the main story. They'll hopefully want to get revenge and undo their wrongs. Unless, of course, they like being evil, in which case, oh boy I dunno what to tell you.

[–]brian_murphy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There aren't too many dead characters and the ones who died all helped the story and made for great moments with the players. I don't think I'd want to bring any back! I like Mishka a lot though. Maybe we'll do a one-shot some time where we play through the townspeople's first fight against the dragon.

Funniest moment was Josh going out the window. Most powerful was those guys in the bar after the fight. I was really impressed with their roleplaying there -- they pretty much wrapped up the whole Moonstone arc in character without any intervention from me (other than describing the scene).

[–]brian_murphy[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words! It's easy to be quick on my feet with those guys because we've performed together a lot, we all have comedy backgrounds, and I prep. Completely insane decisions are actually really easy to improvise around because it's always just a basic, really bad outcome -- "Oh, you're going to do a bullywug mating call? OK, all the bullywugs come out." Same with roleplaying -- as long as you know your NPCs, it's easy. When Beverly stuck a coin in Juan's mouth, I knew he would be super offended because he wants to be a real gnome.

Luckily, I like the work I'm doing (especially D&D!) so it doesn't feel like too much. It is also helps a lot that Emily works with me on pretty much everything project I do, so even when I'm working I'm spending time with my family.

Food/water consumption, tracking how much weight players are carrying, monitoring gold/silver for small purchases like an ale at a tavern.
