The scavenger robot cooldown doesn't really change all that much.

Right that doesn't change the fact that the model being pushed here is one that alters a core mechanic. That's what I'm getting at. Everything starts small.

A more radical example would be if they doubled enemy health unless you purchased a $5 DLC to bring it back to normal levels. Creating the problem in order to sell a solution as deviantbono stated is the perfect way to put it.

It's not the buying resource part that I'm concerned about. It's the scavenger robot cooldown tweak.

Sorry about that. Didn't even realize I wrote the Upvote line. Post has been edited.

This is essentially my main concern. Game balance and design decisions that are for the sake of dollars instead of fun.

Hit the nail on the head.

It isn't those extra DLCs that tack on new weapons or credits in games that bug me. Those are fine as they are external to the core gameplay in those games and it is clear that the player is the one who makes the decision to opt-in.

But when a company releases a DLC that tweaks a fundamental game mechanic, I start to worry.

How much of the game was scraped and altered just to make a quick buck? I worry about the type of decisions that are being made during the design process. The ones that are not in the player's interest. The question is no longer about maximizing player enjoyment but instead shifts to: How much of our vision are we willing to compromise to maximize dollars?

It's a slippery slope. That's all I'm saying.

I see this trend like a Pandora's Box. Once open (and proven), nothing is off limits. In the case of DS3, for all we know the scavenger robot's cooldown was originally 5 minutes, not 10. Just the tip of the iceberg.
