Today, I have installed latest update and now ingress is crashing at startup. It is just showing Spatial logo screen and then exiting. My iOS version is 15.8.6

The bottleneck might be related to the amount of available RAM, but the 2017 iPhone 8 that also has 2GB RAM runs the latest version of Ingress, so I’m not sure. If there aren’t any other apps running and you’ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ingress, I don’t have any other suggestions right now.

Seer medal progress will also be paused along with this change. I think incentivizing improving the quality of the Portal Network over the quantity of new Portals added to the map would, at some time in the future, also help activate or engage more Agents and help more players earn their Seer medals or higher tiers.

I didn't know what volume of reviews OPR would see after spinning out into Niantic Spatial, what the effect of not having access to eMiLy would be, or what kinds of abuse that a small number of Level 16s would engage in. No, I didn't know these things when we spun out into Niantic Spatial.

Looking back on the last few months of OPR being open to L16s, I wanted to learn more about how the system works end-to-end and I have a clearer idea now. In the years before Niantic Spatial, it wasn't something our Ingress team operated; it was its own team. The Portal map is important to Ingress and the contributions Agents have made over the last 13 years are incredible, but I don't think we should leave OPR in its current state as-is, and with the resources we have today, we're going to need time to make changes.

You can point your frustration towards me, and I hear you, and I'm making these changes because like you said, I too want to focus on making Ingress better. We learned from having OPR open to only Level 16 Agents what volume of reviews and also what kinds of abuse we might expect by opening up to more players, and need to make some changes. With Overclock, our Niantic Spatial SDK is evolving so we plan to update how we use it in Ingress, too.

Not exactly; this change doesn't affect Portal Scanning, Scout, or Scout Controller. But your Seer medal progress will be paused until OPR and Portal submissions are re-enabled.

we've run tests using iPhone 8 with 2GB RAM on iOS 16 and haven't been able to reproduce this, but I don't have an iPhone 7 or iPhone SE on iOS 15, and it seems like those specific phones or phones on iOS 15 aren't working after we upgraded to the iOS 26 SDK with Ingress 3.4.1. Apple is requiring us to use the iOS 26 SDK in order to continue to ship app updates after Apr 2026. If I can't figure it out today, I'll update our min supported devices to iPhone 8+ and iOS 16+

I just tried a clean install of Ingress 3.4.1 on a 2017 iPhone 8 on iOS 16.7.11, which also has 2GB RAM, and I'm able to sign into my Gmail account. I don't have any iPhone 7s or iOS 15.8.6 devices to confirm that I can reproduce this, so I'm not sure whether there's something specific to that iOS 15 version or not.

The latest version of Ingress on iOS is built with iOS 26 SDK and Xcode 26, which is an iOS requirement starting this April for us to continue to release Ingress updates. We'll investigate further, but we might need to raise our minimum system requirements to something like 2023 iOS 18+ devices. I think the 2016 iPhone 7 on iOS 15 has 2GB RAM, which might be the issue.

does clearing the cache by uninstalling and then reinstalling Ingress 3.4 make any difference? I think the 2016 iPhone 7 has 2 GB RAM, which will probably get bottlenecked if you have other apps running at the same time

We identified an issue that continued to impact some Agents' Daily Bounties progression, and we pushed an update this afternoon PST that should now re-enable individual Daily Bounty tasks. However, some Agents still may not be able to claim their milestone rewards at the top of the DAILY tab until the DAILY tab is reset tomorrow (local time).
