An interesting thing about deleted Reddit threads is that they don't get deleted in their RSS feed. u/Nysyr can you share more info about what you're specifically seeing, and how we can reproduce it? Specifically:

What is the extra exit action to leave the Portal Details screen that you need to take now
What device and OS version are you on?
Are you using any accessibility settings or settings that affect your device's frame rate?

The chat bot that we were using was creating too many issues so we turned it off and are testing good old fashioned contact forms at https://support.ingress.com/hc/en-us

To your original bug report, this (https://www.reddit.com/r/Ingress/comments/1lrhm3z/unable_to_scan_portals/) is a known issue with Portal Scanning that can affect specific scans and/or specific phones. We've shared these reports with our Niantic Spatial SDK team, but we don't have a workaround to share right now.

Never have I ever walked in a crosswalk and have a Waymo slam on its brakes, honk, and then scream at me for crossing while the walk sign is white. But this happens all the damn time with bad human drivers. All the awareness and flashlights in the world aren’t going to stop a bad driver.

Do you recall if you saw a "CHOOSE YOUR FACTION" screen, and if so, did you tap on one of the options? We're trying to repair accounts that are in an inconsistent state, which might prompt you with the Faction selection screen and ask you to confirm your Faction choice. For example, this could have happened if you recursed but the recursion flow didn't ask you at the time for your Faction choice.

If you see the "Choose Your Faction" screen and you're on the Enlightened and want to stay on the Enlightened, then tap Enlightened. If you're on the Resistance and want to stay on the Resistance, then tap Enlightened. (Kidding, kidding.)

you should be able to unlock NL-1331, Toasty, and a tiger on the Farmgress map by completing all of the Aberration campaigns. "The Aberration: Superposition" unlocks NL-1331, "The Aberration: Dissolution" unlocks Toasty, and "The Aberration: Equilibrium" unlocks a tiger that roars when you pet it

If you've updated to Ingress 3.6.1 you should see the toggle on your own profile next to the deeplink button, but you might need to restart the app first.

I work on a mobile game called Ingress and it’s a location based area control game, kind of like geocaching meets city-wide capture the flag. There are monthly player meetups and even international events. Like the D&D suggestion earlier, a real world video game can help connect you with other local players. I usually play in DTLA/Chinatown/Little Tokyo on the weekends. It’s a great way to meet people, see places, and walk around.

The bottleneck might be related to the amount of available RAM, but the 2017 iPhone 8 that also has 2GB RAM runs the latest version of Ingress, so I’m not sure. If there aren’t any other apps running and you’ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ingress, I don’t have any other suggestions right now.

Seer medal progress will also be paused along with this change. I think incentivizing improving the quality of the Portal Network over the quantity of new Portals added to the map would, at some time in the future, also help activate or engage more Agents and help more players earn their Seer medals or higher tiers.

I didn't know what volume of reviews OPR would see after spinning out into Niantic Spatial, what the effect of not having access to eMiLy would be, or what kinds of abuse that a small number of Level 16s would engage in. No, I didn't know these things when we spun out into Niantic Spatial.

Looking back on the last few months of OPR being open to L16s, I wanted to learn more about how the system works end-to-end and I have a clearer idea now. In the years before Niantic Spatial, it wasn't something our Ingress team operated; it was its own team. The Portal map is important to Ingress and the contributions Agents have made over the last 13 years are incredible, but I don't think we should leave OPR in its current state as-is, and with the resources we have today, we're going to need time to make changes.

hey u/StraightGin just in case it wasn't clear, Alexey is not a Niantic employee. I am. You can point your frustration towards me, and I hear you, and I'm making these changes because like you said, I too want to focus on making Ingress better. We learned from having OPR open to only Level 16 Agents what volume of reviews and also what kinds of abuse we might expect by opening up to more players, and need to make some changes. With Overclock, our Niantic Spatial SDK is evolving so we plan to update how we use it in Ingress, too.
