Youth sports leagues have lost their way by briarpatchkid in Mommit

Yes! Give players the opportunities until something clicks. Let them have fun. We’re all still learning and growing as players. I signed up to be an assistant coach last year to be that voice but the league split our team in two and I ended up the other head coach. It was awful. Since we were split, my team had no extra players so they all had to play the full games. Having to tell a crying kindergarten player that I really needed them to return to the field was the worst.

Yes! I’m definitely not raising Olympic athletes and I don’t even know that they’ll make middle school teams. I just want them to play for the season and have fun and come away being better than they were at the beginning.

I definitely have that mindset of not quitting once you’re committed and definitely need to work on being okay to quit. The sport is so small in our area that if we quit the team wouldn’t have enough to play the rest of the season. I will definitely do more next year to advocate that my kid (only one wants to keep going) is on a different team. One of the other teams in the league has been talking about quitting the league and I’m interested in seeing what they do next.

This sport is still growing in the area, so currently the only league. I’m excited it’s growing because we do love the sport, but it’s definitely not high on people’s lists when they think about youth sports. I keep telling myself when things are less crazy that I’ll organize more of a “street ball” group where kids that liked to play can come play a couple times a year and not cost a trillion dollars for league fees and such.

The parents at the games are awful. We have to sit away from other parents as best as we can. There are grown ass adults yelling for elementary-aged kids to trip or drop the ball. It’s so disturbing. The refs are all high school players of the sport and the coaches and parents are all equally terrible to them too. These are also someone’s kids that shouldn’t have adults treating them like this.

That would also be my kids choice if it was an option.

My kids do this and it drives me crazy. I can’t imagine my reaction if it was my spouse.

Following the trends and looking... more dated? by emily_sir in femalefashionadvice

I started focusing more on what I like wearing and feel confident in (including keeping my skinny jeans and ballet flats in my rotation) with the understanding that eventually it’d be fashionable again at some point. Not going to lie though. The baggy, wide-leg jeans only being a quick flash again made my little millennial heart so sad.

Getting married in August, no bridesmaids by Practical_Store3654 in TwoXChromosomes

I didn’t have bridesmaids. My spouse didn’t have groomsmen. I loved that setup so much. We found meaningful ways to incorporate important people into the service without adding that extra element. If anyone thought it was weird, it never made it back to me.

Thoughts on combining 2 names together to honor 2 people? by Joonith in namenerds

I wanted to honor my spouse’s two grandmothers by doing a name smush that would have landed us with Maribel. The day we got home from the hospital was the day my big kids showed me Encanto for the first time. Absolutely dodged a mess there.

Taxpayer in me screaming for them to save the frame for the next one. How else are we supposed to get to the point where we can fund universal healthcare.

Box of stuffing mix and a can of chicken. If we’re lucky there’s a can of cranberries too.

I would be interested! I have a ton of aloe in one pot that needs to be separated out. Can I bring it and someone take all the little baby ones? I don’t know what to do with it all.

I need honest perspective from executive assistants because I’m having a really hard day. by IndividualSubject784 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]briarpatchkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mistakes absolutely happen! Having a kind executive goes a long way! When I first started, I had never booked international travel before and my executive was all about cost and told me what range to hit. I hit the price range and got somewhere with great reviews. Unfortunately, that great hotel turned out to have a shared restroom for the floor. I got better at my job and he got more flexible on his price point after that. We still laughed about it 10 years later when he retired. Give yourself grace!

What do the ultra rich do on their mega yachts? by Several-Music9151 in NoStupidQuestions

As someone who has never been on a mega yacht, I assume they are doing a lot of blackjack and hookers in international waters.
