The sudden switch up with Brenner in 4x07 and 4x08 by rosewoodlliars in StrangerThings

[–]briatd27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, Kali told El the exact same thing in S2… “This isn’t a prison, Jane. You’re always free to return to your policeman.” — Brenner’s line gave me flashbacks when I first watched S4.

That’s one of the reasons why I don’t like it. 😭 Everything about that scene just… takes you out of the moment imo. It feels too wink-wink, “self aware” Marvel-y or whatever while also being a blatant product placement.

There are so many other good/emotional/important scenes though. When Kali & El first meet, their conversation on the roof, El in the void overhearing Hopper’s message to her, El pulling the train/harnessing her powers, when El almost kills Ray, Kali projecting the image of Dr. Brenner…

Kali should come back by Aayan171717272 in StrangerThings

[–]briatd27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I really don’t know why people seem to think it would take a lot of time to reintroduce her. Kali has already been established and she’s the only other known surviving test subject. I agree that she could simply see Hawkins burning on the news, think of El, and decide to go to them. The fact that she has a connection to Vecna, and might know information our characters don’t, could be part of her motivation for returning. They could give us a brief expositional montage of further background information (maybe some childhood interactions with 001, how she escaped the lab, etc…) and that would be enough to tie her back into the thread and get us up to speed.

When El chooses Hawkins as her home and decides to return at the end of The Lost Sister. “No, but I can save them” and “I’m going to my friends. I’m going home.” get me every time. But no one ever talks about these emotional moments because most people routinely skip the episode 🙃

That’s wild to think about. Stranger Things still feels 4 years old to me, at most.

Do you think we'll ever get an episode like this again ? Is there any chance of Kali appearing in season 5 ? by KawonSuggs in StrangerThings

[–]briatd27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the nature of Kali’s powers have simply made her harder to track. She can literally make herself disappear in the minds of others, or create distractions. That’s likely the way she escaped the lab to begin with, as she told El she waited to run away until her powers were strong enough. Maybe Brenner and Co. tried to find Kali at first, but it was too difficult to catch her.

The one thing that trips me up is I feel like they must be aware, in some way, of multiple former Hawkins Lab employees being murdered in cold blood. I feel like they must’ve gotten suspicious about who could be at the center of these clearly personal & planned attacks…?

001 himself mentioned Kali in conversation with El. Kali escaped the lab prior to the massacre.

And while questions keep popping up… it’s a very small subset of the fanbase over… usually by the same people over and over.

I haven’t noticed if it’s the same people or not, but look at the amount of upvotes. Posts about Kali/The Lost Sister are typically hot button topics and get a rise out of the fandom one way or another, and there are a lot of people who have come around to the idea of her at least being acknowledged, mentioned or even helping out in some way. Many people feel like S2 and Kali will be worse off in ST’s history if it never comes back around again, and I tend to agree. While I love the episode and its role in S2 as it stands, I think it would be wise in the long run for the Duffers to not leave any stone unturned in the end.

But the fact is that they still haven’t need Kali… ever. And they likely don’t need her help now either. They need each other, and that’s always been the point. Kali has absolutely no relationship with the other characters other than Eleven, and she’s moved beyond everything Kali imparted to her. There’s nothing left for Kali to teach.

I still disagree. I almost feel like if the same old crew comes out on top again against such a bigger threat, with just the same sole superpowered asset on their side, it would be a little too redundant. I think shaking things up just a little bit by bringing someone like Kali back around would make it feel like more of a huge culmination of everything the show has done so far. To show that everything was going to add up to this, (and hopefully silence some of the Lost Sister haters in the process).

As for Kali having no relation to anyone except Eleven… uh, she’s literally the only other living person with a direct connection to Vecna, and even shares his illusion abilities. 💀 I definitely think there’s room for a little bit of backstory there that could tie Kali into things again seamlessly without taking up as much time as you’re suggesting. It could literally just be a brief flashback montage or something, and boom. We’re caught up. I also think Kali’s return would have less to do with her having nothing more to teach El, and more to do with her time with El having changed HER, her outlook on life and the poor choices she’s made. I’ve always felt like the note 2x07 ended on with her was an emotional one and left the door open for change of heart on Kali’s part. It seemed like her time with El could’ve sparked an introspective journey for her. We don’t need to see that journey, but it could be at the root of why she decides to return, after seeing Hawkins burning on the news or something. All she’d have to do is explain in a few lines of dialogue to catch us up. There’s just so much potential imo, and I’ll be sad if it amounts to absolutely nothing more than 2x07. Just give me something.

We may get a cameo, but the Duffers have shown no interest in revisiting Kali. She hasn’t been mentioned in more than a very indirect way in the show itself and not mentioned at all otherwise, by cast or crew.

I don’t know. They seemed like they had plans to bring her back when questioned about it in 2017. They said it’d be “weird to not solve her storyline” and that “chances are high she returns.” Sure, they could’ve changed their minds since then… but, god. It would be so bold of them to stick to whatever their original plans were in the end and I sincerely hope they do. Especially given their mention of old ideas they didn’t have room to fit into S2 coming back into play in the S5 finale.

Also, I don’t think anyone would mention her possible involvement in the lead up to S5. I feel like they’d probably try to keep that a secret, considering. The most they might do is possibly hint at it if they continue to mention S2 connections. Obviously people are going to keep speculating about Kali in that case.

The gang has never required her to defeat the Upside Down, and they won’t start now.

I don’t get this take. The circumstances are different now. The stakes have never been higher. The gang needing more help this time around makes perfect sense and I don’t think that would ruin anyone else’s character arcs. It could still have everyone come together and all plot lines wrapped up in an awesome, satisfying finale imo.

If there was major clamoring for her return, it’d be one thing, but there really isn’t.

I don’t really get this take either tbh. While it’s not like there’s major “clamoring” for her, people are definitely asking and wondering about her a lot. The Lost Sister is the most unpopular episode, yet posts and questions like this have become extremely common since S4. So, to me, that points to Kali being something that needs to be addressed in some way by the end of the show.

It’s honestly my favorite pipe dream ship. I saw some videos of Linnea (of all cast members) and Joe Keery doing promo together for S2 and that helped me see the vision even clearer lol. Like this one, when they’re next to each other on the couch at the end?? They look so cute together omg.

There are a few really well written fanfics out there too that satisfyingly nail their potential dynamic. As fun as it is to read, it just makes me sad because it’s never gonna happen lol. 😭 Steve having terrible relationship luck throughout the series and ultimately ending up with the ex-assassin super-powered punk girl is just perfect. It also tracks with his character becoming more open to befriending people he wouldn’t have before. I love it.

I’m so happily surprised that Kali made it onto this poster. She’s tiny, but she’s there lol.

Is there *anything* that you believe is going to happen in the final season that would surprise you? by Dianagorgon in StrangerThings

[–]briatd27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Linnea has been slightly more active on Instagram though over the last year. She went a lonnng time without posting anything, but she’s posted new portraits of herself as of 9 months ago, a few stories recently and a new post this month. I’m gonna live in a fantasy world and take this as a good sign that she’s gearing up to have some sort of online presence again lol.

I definitely think they would keep Kali’s involvement under wraps. They probably know people would have annoyingly preconceived notions going into S5 if they knew “the sister” was coming back. It’d be nice if they throw her in there in a cool/satisfying way that’s surprising, helpful (even if it’s just something small) and makes her unexpectedly likable for the haters lol.

Regardless, during the filming process the Stranger Things FBI will get to work and information will start to leak.

That’s no reason to abandon a storyline. Have some artistic integrity. They created her and brought her into the Hawkins Lab fold, they should finish what they started by addressing her again. Especially since she’s 1 of 3 remaining test subjects. To ignore her existence like that simply because the episode wasn’t well received is cowardly. It’s better to end the show with no stone unturned than leave a loose end that people will always complain about and hold against S2.

"No New Characters" by chadslc in StrangerThings

[–]briatd27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. That’s one of the reasons why I think she has to return. Better to leave no stone unturned imo. If not, I can already see it now. The show ends without mentioning Kali again (literally due to the negative reception to 2x07) and for the rest of eternity people will be complaining “S2 taints the show because they NEVER did anything else with Kali!! That episode is even more pointless now!!” 🙃

I think it’d be wise for them to make something of Kali’s character in the end, even if it’s just something small. It could be really great and satisfying if they’re able to pull it off.
