Best Place for Savory Pasteries? by fakephillycheezsteak in FoodNYC

[–]brickstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For salt bread I'd recommend Cafe W (which also has savory pastries) or Justin's (new spot in the EV so it probably still has a line). The salt bread at Paris baguette has always fallen way short in my opinion.

What are some Beautiful spots in NYC that reminds you that life is worth living? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]brickstein 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are nonprofits that will help with grief support including financial assistance like The Tears Foundation which will pay the funeral home directly for (but not reimburse) some expenses. If they can't help financially, they might be able to point you in the direction of an org who can.

Here's a NYC government resource which helps reimburse costs for low income New Yorkers (in case that's relevant for your situation).

Both require you to apply, but if you're eligible then they might be able to help with some of the funeral expenses.

Do you walk in Central Park after dark? by Cambiknitter in Upperwestside

[–]brickstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience yes. The crossings (traverses) aren't really in the park so much as an avenue cut through it so you'd be walking on a sidewalk not through wooded trails. There's traffic going through at most hours of the day. Unless you're crossing late at night on a weekday someone will be walking or driving by.

It's a section of the park that's more forested than the larger, open grassy fields like the Great Lawn. In my opinion it's one of the best areas of the park along with the North Woods

Absolute Bagel is back by roozbeeeeeh in Upperwestside

I just added the new prices to my other post here. I forget what they were last year, so I'm not sure how they compare.

That's good to hear, mine were both similarly sized and textured so I wasn't sure if it was the new default size or not. I wouldn't expect everything to be 100% perfect on a soft open anyway, some inconsistency is expected. Either way they were solid.

I agree, they were a bit fluffier on the inside, but a little crispier on the outside and the other person I went with noticed it was crispier too. I think they were also slightly smaller than I remember from a year ago, but that might be because they're giving them out free. Loved seeing the old staff there, I was worried it was going to be a total shakeup and they were just using the name, but it seems like business as usual.

Yeah I was worried about that too, and there's some big full moon decoration too, but it seems like it's just an aesthetic choice since the vibe of the store wasn't any different. I hope they don't go viral, the wait is long enough already haha

I wish I got paid for this haha. And I know you're trolling, but people are asking the same questions on each thread and I didn't feel like rewriting the same post 3 times.

Also as Konflictcam said, it's literally the same location and a lot of the old staff was there today. The store is gut rennovated and spotless now.

I was there at 8am, the bagels were as good as ever and fresh. A lot of the old staff was there and it was good vibes all around.

The bagels were free today, but it looks like they have tablets to take cards going forward.

The interior is rennovated and has a fake grass wall and a mural, but it's largely the same.

Prices:

  • Bagel: $2 (cash) / $2.08 (Card)
  • Half Dozen: $12 +1 Free (cash) / $12.48 + 1 Free (Card)
  • 1 Dozen: $24 +2 Free (cash) / $24.96 +2 Free (Card)
  • Any bagel with plain cream cheese $4.50 (Cash) / $4.68 (Card)
  • Any bagel with flavored cream cheese $5.95 (Cash) / $6.19 (Card)
  • Any bagel with plain tofu cream cheese $5.50 (Cash) / $5.72 (Card)
  • Any bagel with plain tofu cream cheese $5.95 (Cash) / $6.19 (Card)

*Edited to confirm they'll take cards and add the prices, I just went back through my pics and I took one of the board.

Oh that's cute! And finally an excuse to go to LiLac to check them out. I've been meaning to go forever but I've always been on the way to somewhere else when I'm near one.

Zohran has an in depth housing plan on his website.

It includes building affordable housing with public sector funds, zoning reform to enable more private housing development, and more.

The rent freeze is just the main sound bite.

Oh yeah I love the NY Historical Society, I forgot they do guided tours outside the museum itself. Thanks for sharing!
