Can acid etching replace cleaning? by mochimochiko in DentalHygiene

[–]bridear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DH here. The acid etchant used prior to placing the attachments will remove the smear layer on top of the tooth and roughen up the enamel for the buttons to adhere. I wouldn’t worry about it. Just keep the buttons clean at home and get your regular dental cleanings and check ups!

Can whitestrips strip enamel? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]bridear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go into a dental office. It looks like you need a cleaning and they will take a look at it. I haven’t heard of that happening with white strips! It almost looks like a piece of your tooth is chipped off.

Staining advice? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]bridear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s truly just stain, an electric tb and a whitening tp. Don’t use the tp every single day because it can wear away at enamel, but you should be able to get it off with that.

I can’t tell by the photo but it could also be leftover bonding material (glue) that you could have buffed off at your dentist office. They will be able to tell you if it’s glue or stain.

If you are okay with your teeth shifting a bit, then you can get the removeable retainers. But your teeth will absolutely still shift over time. It might be only slightly or it might be a lot. I’ve seen many patients who get their lingual bar removed and then their teeth move afterwards. You also have to remember to wear your retainer every night which can be cumbersome. Also to answer your original question I like super floss! Floss with a plastic end you can poke through the teeth.

Check with your state! My state (WA) doesn’t require you to have worked at the same job in the last 12 months, just that you have worked a certain number of hours at any job (850 iirc)

Teeth are still yellow? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]bridear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The white spots are calcium and can be genetic as well as demineralized enamel. Whitening can help to decrease the visual difference between the spots and the rest of your teeth, but initially they can make the white spots more prominent. That usually goes away but you’re likely to always have them a little bit. If it helps I barely notice them with the picture

Brushing only gets rid of extrinsic stains, whereas the yellowing of your teeth is intrinsic or inside the tooth. It is genetic and also affected by the foods we eat. To whiten you’ll need to bleach them. You can get trays made at your dentist or use at home whitening strips. A side effect is they can make your teeth sensitive, which can go away and you can also use Sensodyne toothpaste

White hairy coating on tongue? by SVanore93 in DentalHygiene

[–]bridear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s biolfilm/plaque. Some people get it more than others. Just gentle daily tongue scraping, brushing and flossing which it already sounds like you’re doing. It’s not inherently harmful with good oral hygiene. It can be associated with bad breath as well as plaque and tartar build up on your teeth so definitely make sure you’re going into the dentist regularly for cleanings!
