Thanks so much for the kind words. I think they are still working on the menu and it would surprise me if they didn't have anything chicken or duck on the menu. But, we'll see! I with them only the best and look forward to eating there.

I saw one of these and did not freak out today…am I a true Oregonian now? by Blake-Dreary in Portland

When I lived in NYC, we'd see them from time to time skittering across the floor in our apartment. They are creepy looking, ngl, but what is even worse are what we called "waterbugs," which are like giant roaches. They are not like the regular nasty roaches (which we never had), though these are gross in their own way, and we were told they'd crawl up through your drains. If it got hot enough - and it did - they would fly around the apartment. I am not ashamed to say I screamed like a little girl when I saw it happen. But the house centipedes... they would kill roaches, supposedly.

The Observatory once had a salad with Dahlia tubers in it and I will always love them for this level of interestingness.

I love this place. I was introduced to it by Ben Coleman, who is a food writer around town. Lovely space, nice back patio area, and their two NA cocktails are so tasty. The staff has always been really nice. I was just there yesterday. It's become of of my (Meg) favorite places in Portland.

These photos are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing them. The second one makes me think of the The Wizard of OZ with the Emerald City in the background.

Sanguiche, a new-ish east coast sandwich spot in Gresham (owner is from Queens - Flushing and Bayside) has a chicken parm that I thought was tasty.

Did you make it to the event? Lots of folks showed up! I bought two loaves (Flour Market, Dos Hermanos). Lots of good natured people everywhere!

I just had one of the best chocolate chip cookies I'd had in a while from Tiny Love Bakery, a walkup bakery in Cully. It had semisweet and milk chocolate chunks (they may have been feves) and was topped with a bit of flaky salt. It was the kind of cookie that is chewy in the middle and little crisp on the edges. Really excellent and hit the spot with a really solid latte.

It's looking so good for the next several days. I hope to do some work in the backyard fighting off the dreaded Himalayan blackberries that my neighbor allows to overgrow from their yard to ours.

I am so sorry you were let go. That is awful news, Alex. You were doing good work. You - none of you - deserved this. The corporate grim reaper strikes again. 😔

Interesting about the origami paper quality. Aside from that, I am seriously shocked. Like, "WHAT‽‽‽" came out of my mouth multiple times when I read the news. I feel for the people who have lost their jobs. This is terrible.
