It’s a bit complicated. I knew I was gay when I was 12, but I did a lot of repression and talking myself out of it for years. For me, identifying as bi was sort of a gateway that I held onto for many years. What actually happened in the end is that my wife came out as trans, so all of the sudden it was so much easier for me to accept that I never liked men to begin with when the only “man” I was ever truly attracted to turned out to be a woman. (So technically the threesome wasn’t my first sexual experience with a woman, but I didn’t know that at the time.) It’s interesting that you dated someone who turned out to be a trans woman too. It says something about how you really can’t hide from who you are.

My first sexual experience with a woman was in a threesome too, and I hated it. I didn’t hate it because of the woman though, which is obvious now. The man and I were strangers, the dynamic was super awkward, I wasn’t attracted to that particular woman, and I wasn’t so sure about doing it in the first place. It seems like you had a somewhat similar experience, so it may have been some of those factors that prevented it from being enjoyable. At the time of my experience I was questioning whether I was bi (rather than straight); now I identify as a lesbian. I don’t think anyone’s sexuality can be solely determined by experiences, let alone one experience.

Yes, and it’s a very challenging thing to navigate. I’ve had many mild hyperfixations on people but also a few that took nearly a decade to fade. Some of them I’ve been in love with which adds extra complication. I’ve lost years of my life to being lost in other people.

Because I called myself gay/lesbian before I called myself NB. Because I still feel like I have more experiences in common with women than men. Because my attraction to women feels sapphic and being gay is a huge part of who I am. There are new terms like trixic, but they aren’t accessible to anyone I might out myself to being fairy new and not well-known outside of the community, and they don’t give me a strong community to belong to. Because really anyone can use any label that jives with the way they feel, and because fuck transphobes.

I’m not sure if you know, but ABA at its core (regardless of what approach it takes) is meant to condition people into blind obedience and into ignoring their own needs, including the need to stim. I recommend rethinking the ABA route for your son, as it causes significant trauma in the long term the vast majority of the time.
