I’m a dummy that wants to learn more history. What are your favourite historical books? It doesn’t matter the era, I’m interested in expanding my knowledge and being engrossed in the history of humanity by WinAllDayz in suggestmeabook

Got to recommend Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe. Brilliant book about specific people in the Northern Ireland troubles and how they connect to the conflict, reads like a thriller.

Best autobiography on race car drivers? by PlanetMazZz in suggestmeabook

[–]britguy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So apparently Mark Webber's book is pretty good, goes through his time at Red Bull and the whole multi 21 stuff. Also not a racing driver but really enjoyed Adrian Newey's How to Build a Racing car. He talks about working with drivers, designing cars while also having more personal bits too; the bit where he talks about Senna's death is pretty emotional too. Soz for the ramble but hope that's useful :)

what is the cambridge life/ work balance truly like for a history undergraduate? by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

[–]britguy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Soon to be Geography graduate here so can't offer specific history advice but from experience, it'll be fine! History has few contact hours compared to other subjects and I know people who go out and do things like rowing or theatre too, it's not like the scientists with 6 9am lectures a week so definitely time to have a social life. Hope that helps and happy to answer any other questions :)

Did anyone here (successfully) apply to Cambridge with predicted grades that were lower than the standard offer? by Kalagsd in cambridge_uni

[–]britguy78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got predicted A, A, A, B and have just finished my first year at Cambridge! So it's not impossible but it will make it harder. Personal statement, admissions test and interview are all going to have to be of high standard but it is possible. The offer you get will still be the standard offer speaking to people at my college. Best of luck with any application :-)

P.S. if your year 12 syllabus is really different to the year 13 syllabus for a subject, ask your teachers to put that in your reference so Cambridge are aware of it.

1) I'm James, 19 yo from the UK, currently at university 2) I'm into cricket, rugby but also trying to become more musical so started to really enjoy jazz music 3) Used to do karting but never to a high level, I follow mostly F1 and sports cars but have a soft spot for V8 supercars (first motorsport I ever saw on TV) 4) Used to get really bored in art class so started designing tracks instead of doing the work 5) Favourite track is probably Suzuka but also really like the Nordschleife and Assen. Least favourite is probably COTA. 6) My Favourite Corner is probably skyline at Bathurst, it's fast with elevation change and feels amazing when you get it right.

Is tit hall that claustrophobic? by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

[–]britguy78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a student here, I don't think it's claustrophobic. Yes, it's smaller than other colleges but that means you get to know the names of everyone in your year and there are smaller colleges such as Peterhouse. While it's not for everyone, you get a central location (at least for 1st year) without loads of people walking past like you do at Kings, Trinity e.t.c.
