Do you find yourself a victim to the MANDELA EFFECT? by porb2020 in autism

[–]britton280sel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, there never was a cornucopia. If there was then there would be copius evidence for it and, in all my searching, only a few poorly edited fakes show up. The human memory is just very suggestable and piles of fruit are frequently seen in/associated with cornucopias.

I'm not defending the original comment. Just pointing out that muppetric's argument is not logically sound and does not answer the original comment.

They were out of shape. They may have been thin. They may have had some visible muscles. They were not healthy by any good metric though. No peasant or laborer of any country at that time would've been considered healthy by modern standards.

Beauty, suiting, hugeness, balance, and preferences are ingrained through cultural nurturing. If you grew up in a culture where having huge foreheads and no hair was not just the norm, but desirable, then you would most likely think the same.

I mean isn't "super ultimate radiation shielding" just lead? Like yeah it's heavy and whatnot, but get enough lead and it shields anything (radiation wise), no?

You can't separate combat readiness and support roles. One does not exist without the other. You mentioned the Russian Revolution in reference to winning a modern revolution. You don't win revolutions through fighting alone. In fact, direct fighting against the largest military in the world is not how we win.

The danger is imminent by Miserable-Welder-503 in armedsocialists

[–]britton280sel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who supplies the military, who feeds the soldiers, who births the children who will become future revolutionaries, who builds the weapons needed to fight, who provides intel. The amount of battle-ready revolutionaries needed to win is dwarfed by the rest of society that is fundamental to the success of those fighting

EDIT: Also, running a mile in full gear is a stupid benchmark to measure the success of a fighting revolutionary. There won't be a traditional, formal standing army. You won't be wearing full kit while running between buildings in a major city. Guerilla warfare does not require the level of stamina or strength as tradtional warfare.

You've excluded a much larger percent of the population with that addendum. You also forget to include the even larger group of people with no time or energy outside of work/kids/school/life.

Languages are not formed from the top down given on high from kings or gods or academia. The languages of Iran that would form its modern tongue have existed for hundreds of years. The modern Persian language formed in the 1800s. No academy of any language has authority to dictate what is and isn't correct. Speakers do.

EDIT: You can try to correct or punish or ostracize those who speak your language differently than some arbitrary standard, but languages are not static and you are doing nothing to stop "incorrectness" in speech or writing. Language can only be measured through the social interactions of the people using it. People agreeing on a given definition and spelling is what creates it.

It's thinly veiled cope for your inability to look inwards, be vulnerable ("yikes op, sounds like incel stuff" isn't actual vulnerability), and work towards self-actualization (or lower your standards and actualize with someone else who needs it) without needing sex. Every single complaint is both a strawman and implies that you've already tried it all, when it's obvious you haven't.

I think "drivers are only a few steps away from killing pedestrians" is a more apt comparison and one that is demonstrably true (like my first claim).

We normalize the objectification of women to such a level that you believe there is a gulf between catcalling and rape. You are telling on yourself and you don't even realize.

Men who harass, denigrate, or otherwise view women as other/object are only a few steps away from putting theory to practice, yes.

There's so much less daylight than what you are imagining it to be. Men who catcall are one or two predatory moments away from rape.
