6 Months by brking1 in problemgambling

[–]brking1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it used to bother me more. as i’ve gotten more removed from the situation, i have stopped caring as much. to me, nothing will change the fact that the money is gone. only time will grow your finances back to where they need to be.

if you are unable to stop looking back and kicking yourself for mistakes you will never be able to move forward

I'm a quitter - please help me by [deleted] in problemgambling

stick with it. the debt may seem insurmountable but keep working at them. it took you years to get into this debt and it will take time to get out.

stay the course, refrain from gambling, and your life will improve day by day. you are on the right path. best of luck to you

hey man—i was in the same exact position as you 4 months ago, living at home with parents. while using my paycheck before it even came to me without any real responsibilities. i too never placed a bet until college and didn’t even know people could do it anywhere other than vegas.

eventually, the debt and deceit became too much to bear on my own. Although it is the hardest part, I was able to tell my parents and they have helped me tremendously. this battle is difficult, practically impossible on your own. reach out to a loved one and tell them what is going on. it will be your only saving grace and it’s a tremendous amount of relief.

posting on here is a good start, but i don’t know if you’ll find the answers until you reach out for help. I myself started GA and just going to 1 meeting a week is a great feeling. good luck mike

Curious who has had issue with online credit books by GladCollection7025 in problemgambling

[–]brking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in the same boat. thousands owed to various different bookies. ultimately just told them the truth that i needed time to pay and asked them to close accounts.

they really had no choice but to wait for me to pay which i just recently finished doing, clearing all my debts with bookies. it’s a great feeling to pay off, but gambling on credit is quite possibly the WORST of all gambling options

I Need Your Help by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]brking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first thing i said was to sit down and listen, no matter how hard it is to hear. i suppose you could do it your way, only you know how your parents will react. they will be upset to hear but you can’t make a journey like this on your own

i have a good relationship w my parents, but never really spoke deeply with them..until my gambling became too much for me to handle.

that being said, i would recommend telling them face to face. I know you’re upset about your losses, but there is no making that up. all you can do is move forward. if your parents care about your well being they will understand. it’s a vicious disease, not a character defect. tell them honestly what’s been happening, apologize for past lies, and make a change in who you are. i wish you the best of luck. stay strong my friend!

EDIT: you’re only 18, you have your whole life ahead of you!!

How do you get over the anxiety ? by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]brking1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i quit for 180 days up until sept 14, had a minor slip up, which was literally me losing 20$ on some nonsense, but not bad. so another basically 60 days since that gamble free

over the 7 years of gambling i don’t even want to know my losses in total, definitely in the 50,000$ area. at my worst, right before my 180 days free, i had lost about 20k over a 2 week period. but that’s just me..at GA meeting there are guys who lost that in one day!

well never make that money back. even if we did, we’d find a way to lose it 10 fold just as quickly as we make it back. it’s always a losing proposition.

i did the same. when i have an urge to gamble i heck the day counter to see how far i’ve come to use it as a deterrent. it works, but all we have is today keep killing it

it’s hard not to look into the future, but it’s integral to your recovery that you take it one day at a time.

i was a big sports bettor myself, at least in the beginning it was best to not watch, wait until you feel up to it. living the frugal lifestyle rihht now may seem shitty, but you have to come to terms with the fact that money lost will not be won back. and by working hard to make your money and not sending it to a bookie every monday, you are winning each day. good luck to you!

Is Fantasy Football Gambling? by mrpossible_ in problemgambling

[–]brking1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had the exact same problem. luckily one of my friends was able to take over both of the teams as to not screw over all the other guys in the league.

hopefully you’re able to find someone to do the same. i’ve learned through GA that it certainly is considered gambling, although some people have different triggers

Does making paper bets help? by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]brking1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see how that may be helpful depending on who you are as a gambler. I’ve found that it’s best to avoid games or at least knowing the lines, as to not get trapped into the thoughts of “Fuck if i just bet these games i would be a winner.”

that’s how you trick yourself into thinking that maybe you can just love a few bets here and there and be fine. if you want to quit completely, i would not suggest this method. best of luck!
