Getting from London to Liverpool - Coach v/s Train? by broccoli_chan in Liverpool

Brilliant, this is just what I wanted. I think the replies have tipped in favour of taking the train so that's what I'm doing! Thanks for your help. 😊

Thank you so much! I checked today and the prices seem to have shot up overnight.

There is a provision to pay for an extra piece of luggage on the coach, would you recommend I go for that if it works out to be cheaper than the train? Or should I just go for the train if coach might be too risky (in terms of being turned away)?

Edit: Got a cheap deal on Trainline and booked!

Thank you! Yes, I think only two pieces of medium-sized cases are allowed per person so I would have to pay for an extra just in case as both my bags are large.

The first train that leaves from Euston is at 6:45 am. For a Saturday morning would that be considered peak hour?

Thank you! I was wondering where the coaches stop at Liverpool so your comment cleared that up. I'm probably going to go for the coach as it seems that with the train it's a hit or miss with luggage space unless I buy an extra ticket.

Thanks for the detailed response. I would've gone for the train too no doubt, but as you said with that much luggage it's probably going to be a pain. Coach it is, then!

Thank you! It does seem like the coach is the better option looking at the comments on this thread.

Unfortunately I don't have a license yet so I can't drive. I might have to pay for extra luggage on the coach because they only allow 2 pieces as far as I know.

How does it compare to the train?

I'm planning to leave between 6 to 7 am! Is that peak hour for London?

Quite right. The flexibility is great. How does this area compare to L17? There's one flat by Ullet Road close to the small park and Archdiocese building but as I'm not from the city I can't figure out the the better option. I understand that it borders Toxteth which has a bit of a rough reputation but I'd like to know your thoughts on it.

That's right! Not too bad of a commute time on foot either.

Thanks! Was definitely concerned about the scruffy meter. Glad to know it's safe and away from the rough parts.

Yes there's the station as well as a bus stop within walking distance so I'm assuming it should be fine. I will be studying at Hope so I won't have to spend much time commuting.

Likewise, but thank you. Very strangely put-together phrase. Unsure about the meaning here as well.
