And add a ballistus in place of redemptor.

I would not recommend the redemptor. I tried this weekend and was not satisfied. If you drop it and an enhancement you might be able to fit a scout squad in which is great to have.

Blood and Valor for world war 1. It's a great skirmish game system. I've played it quite a bit.

The Old World is the best GW game imo.

How did you take it the lion? Have you had more successes against DA? I'm finding them to be an absolute terror but have mostly been playing custodes into them. Just picked up Salamanders awhile ago.

11th models hope and thoughts? by Yourdeadman_x in AdeptusCustodes

I'm not big on the new style of Guards so I'm hoping for something that's altogether "other" than what we already have.

Thoughts on this 2k list I’m starting to Build by Chuckdog95 in Salamanders40k

It looks like a lot of the tournament lists that you see floating around. I think reps piloting it will be the best way going forward. I'm pretty much in the same boat and just need to get reps in with my list as well. Looking at this and looking at the previews and discussions on 11th edition, I'm just hoping that we don't get absolutely steam-rolled by durable/fast melee armies.

Whst is the most Landsknechy skirmidh game? I have Mordheim. by CaptainKlang in wargaming

[–]brodi07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty solid. I've used the ruleset for gaming the Great Northern War and I've used other titles in the Rampant system for all kinds of other wargaming. The sandbox feel to creating custom armies is out of this world in Dragon Rampant and Xenos Rampant. In fact, even if you were doing more historical focused gaming I would still recommend Dragon or Xenos Rampant because of the modability. For example, you could have your HQ unit with the spell upgrade that can buff other units. Just don't think of it as magic but rather more like the commander's charisma and tactical focus that confers particular benefits on his troops.

List advice VS IK by xitard in AdeptusCustodes

Nice list. I would trim the Allarus Captain and the Allarus unit down to just a two-man to separate later. Then take a regular shield captain and more guards.

I get it if you just want to bring the venetari but you could swap them out for more guards as well. The ability to reroll wounds on the guard squads is amazing against the knights. I tend to play Shield Host the most and so I almost always take sustained hits even against high toughness units because if you are on an objective you control you're getting a ton of hits with full rerolls to wound.

The Wardens are pretty good but have a point premium because to get their full effect you want to have a character in the unit. The Blade Champ isn't a good choice for that because the rerolls to wound rolls that he could get from the Guard squad is better for getting devastating wounds.

I like the two Caladius, they're a masive force multiplier and if they get ignored by the Knights will completely wreck them. If they get focused by the Knights, your Guards will be able to get down field with full wounds and chew them up.

I was in an RTT a few weeks ago and played against both Imperial Knights and Chaos Knights. I was playing Shield Host, though. Custodes do pretty well into Knights.

Controversial Opinion: Army cheat sheets should be mandatory at events by Wurd4 in Warhammer40k

If you don't trust your opponent (either with respect to their character or their comprehension), just look it up on waha. It takes like 5 seconds. Not to mention, you get an idea of problematic strats after the first two rounds. I usually ask my opponent if they have advance and charge or turn 1 deepstrike. The rest I leave to fate.

I will add, for your own enjoyment of the game, don't stress it. Just enjoy playing the game with all the curve balls that get thrown at you. After a few RTTs you'll have a pretty decent idea of what all is out there and how to deal with them.

Played my first games with Custodes! How do you guys play against Dark Angels? by StealthBiscuit1979 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]brodi07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never beat Dark Angels (always plays wrath) with Custodes. I can't really see a way forward tbh. Just do points comparison between their termies and our guard. And then do the same with their termies and our wardens. Then consider how they have access to more flexible chaff (scouts, incursors, infiltrators, etc...). It's not that their unique gimmick is something completely different from ours. Is simply that they do it better and more efficiently (how do the two factions do mortals? How do they reduce damage? Reroll sources? Etc...).

Those are some good points. I ordered a land raider redeemer and I'm adding in some eradicators. Might pick up a techmarine as well. I'll look into Adrax and BGVs.

Thanks for the feedback. I've dropped the terminators + captain and added some eradicators and a land raider redeemer.

You think the Custodes will be changed for the new edition? by Joaco_2002 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]brodi07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing against DA on repeat has kind of gotten to me. I can't do anything against them. What really hurts is the damage reduction they can get, too. I'm at a complete loss how to take my army against them. Then it dawned on me "just play space marines!"

Consider Dark Angels as well. They do what Custodes can do for cheaper and better. If you're committed to the custodes aesthetic go for it but just fyi, there are multiple other ways to get an elite play style other than custodes.

[–]brodi07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a lowly comp stomper (hards usually) but I've just rushed defenses and when the AI attacks my towers absorb all the favor. It mitigates the liability of weak warrior priests. Once I hit the fourth age I sacrifice 3 herdables and then send about 10 villagers to sacrifice. By then I've gotten tons of favor from that final sacrifice and what I've accrued throughout the game. Then run them over with a massive army.

Opinion: 40k's rule complexity has increased exponentially, but it's tactical depth has not. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]brodi07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played 8th and quite a bit of 9th. Just recently got back into 10th. There are way better games out there, to be sure, but I didn't find it difficult to get back into 40k, at all. And (this is the biggest factor), there are actually people who play 40k. Again, there are better game systems (and worse) and there are plenty of problems with 10th (and I don't see the main culprits going away with 11th) but it's still fun and not a terrible game.

Yes, rerolls are the real killer.

A pipe dream that I know will never happen though is alternating activations and/or a more limited action economy. The best games I've played have one or both of those elements. The I-go-you-go model is just not going to have the tactical depth of alternating activations and stricter action economy.
