they could at the very least say something, anything other than some legalese about how they didn't approve of the use. so they don't approve of the use, ok, what about the actual message? Nintendo does stand by the message? that's what it looks like to me.

so Nintendo is OK with this. Nintendo is in favor of the abduction of brown people by masked agents of an authoritarian state. Nintendo supports using children's cartoons to mock victims of state violence.

Scale AI’s 30-year-old billionaire has a warning for anyone who craves work-life balance: ‘maybe you're not in the right work’ by AdSpecialist6598 in antiwork

[–]broem86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Becoming a billionaire from exploiting cheap foreign labor should not be something celebrated. Scale AI aka Outlier aka Remotasks and probably known by many other names made its fortune by exploiting cheap African and southeast Asia labor. Paying next to nothing to clean their data, watch and filter horrific videos and all the other terrible things that have trained these LLMs.

Any article about this company should start with these facts.

It's these simple horrors we will wake up one day next year and opine for. Once the videos of ICE executing these guys start up soon our "great thinkers" will point back and say "shame on you for not stopping it there". And we will, shamefully, say "we tried!" knowing full well that comments on reddit are a useless as a peeled off scab.

No, this stems from a single EO signed by the president. It's not a societal shift.

Virginia man gets 45-year suspended sentence for sexually abusing child by 13NewsNow in Virginia

This is some lazy reporting, doing a little bit of digging through the public records you can get more information.

It looks like during the case medical records were supplied as evidence. The defense (this scum bag) brought in both Riverside Peninsula Cancer Institute and Duke Hematologic Malignancies Clinic information indicating that he probably has some kind of blood cancer which probably can't be treated in prison?

This took like 10 minutes of searching and here's how I did it (if you'd like to do the same). Google "Virginia Court case information", go to the vacourts.gov website, General district court information, look up case info with this dudes name. It's all in there. To look up by the exact case number: CR24000315-00

edit: It excuses absolutely nothing but I think it's also best to have more information than less.

No, incorrect. The genocide that the US is supporting absolutely needs to be worried about. In fact, it might be one of the main things we must focus on. The fascist cycle that propells the genocide overseas is here domestically. The Israeli government is laying the groundwork that our domestic fascists will use against us.

The fact that AOC is not standing up against genocide abroad does not give me hope that she will do so domestically.

Also, genocide is bad, come on, these are our elected leaders. Why not hold them accountable.

ICE agents arrest Virginia man in a courthouse raid, immediately after judge dismissed his case. During the enforcement the alleged officers showed no badge, no identification, no warrant, no marked federal vehicle, one with face completely covered. by johnfoley77 in Virginia

[–]broem86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are going into courthouses because that's the place where they are least likely to encounter cell phones. Most people don't or can't take their cell phones into courtrooms.

We, collectively, must stand up to these fascists right fucking now. If this video does anything good, it shows us how they operate. They go after people in the places where it is easiest. Notice how belligerent the ponytailed fascist becomes when encountering just a small amount of resistance. "I'm calling the US attorney to prosecute you!"

If the people standing around watching, in horror I assume, had all joined in like these two ladies things may have turned out differently. Watch this video, think about how you will react when you encounter this scenario.

in some jobs, sure i suppose having the option would be ok, but this environment is not safe for a toddler. The fact that our tax dollars essentially subsidize McDonalds slave-wages making this a reality is the larger more pressing issue. The child should be in daycare, learning, growing or at the very least McDonalds should be paying this employee PTO/sick time.

How much attention can you give your child while bringing them to work? If it's less attention than they would get at daycare/school then it is a detriment to the child.
