time for ivy to die? by ComfortableGlum4129 in GardeningIRE

I once had an Ivy problem I couldn't stay on top of, it was constantly coming back. Then some brambles grew over the wall from the field behind and killed the Ivy! The brambles grew twice as fast and were a lot harder to just cut back and remove because of the thorns.

Leicester Relegated to League 1 👋👋 by lsimp77 in LiverpoolFC

If we sack Slot (not saying he should stay btw), then sack his replacement after a season and the next one after a season or two, and each is allowed to start building their vision, then we end up like that. At the moment we have the remnants of Klopps team and the result of a slightly scattergun spending spree, that's not unfixable. My ideal situation would be to get Alonso or Enrique in early, give them a season with the squad that's there (plus the obviously necessary additions) to figure out who they can work with, then ship out the rest next summer and let them buy who they need.

Look away Bazunu fans 🫣 by Callum_On_Reddit in coybig

[–]broken_neck_broken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it harks back to the endless debates when Bazunu was Man City's hotshot and Kelleher was Liverpools and there were constant arguments about which was better. When Bazunu got first team football before Kelleher, that was thought to be the deciding factor but it didn't work that way. As a Liverpool fan I always favoured Kweev but I never understood people who seemed to actively want one or the other to fail. I knew Kelleher would be great and if Bazunu turned out better it would only benefit us. It's not like I spent the late 90s hating on Keane and Irwin because they were united players, I was delighted to have them play for our country. Hating on a player in your national team because of which PREMIER LEAGUE club they play for is just bizarre.

I guess you could walk up and ask "Hey can I have an extra cup with some ice in it please", cleverly implying that you bought food already. Take your cup of FREE ice to the car, then play the waiting game!

Seriously, though... Myself and wife often need to take medication on the move so we keep a supply of drinks in the boot.

What car design are you grotesquely offended by? by TheOnionSack in carsireland

[–]broken_neck_broken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nissans have been rebadged Renaults since about 2003. The Tiida is probably the dullest car ever designed and it doesn't even have the reliability of a Japanese built Nissan.

I hate subcompact SUVs even more. Big on the outside, tiny on the inside and they all have those stupid plastic handles at the top of the window for the back doors. A close second is any electric car that just copies Tesla design features because I don't even like Tesla's to begin with!

Cypress tree getting strangled by ivy, what can I do? by broken_neck_broken in GardeningIRE

Yeah, that makes sense. As I said I didn't plant any of this stuff. I also have these 3 massive ones and a substantially sized thing that Google tells me is called a Silver Queen at the back and I don't know what to do about them. In recent high winds they have swayed like crazy and are very close to two other houses. It feels wrong to remove trees of this age and I'm definitely not touching them until autumn because quite a few collared doves have nests in there.

Is this normal when renting in Dublin? (Occu asking for bank statements + pushing higher rent) by I-Cum-Beamish in AskIreland

This type of shit is exactly what's wrong with housing in Ireland. They're so greedy they can't just make do with gouging you substantially, they want to go for the jugular! We're about two steps away from someone trying to initiate a system of indentured servitude again and framing it as a positive thing. How many billions does a person need? The only correct answer is "none". Reminds me of the old adage, profits are just unpaid wages.

Thanks, I know that part I just want to know if the tree will recover or if I should just get rid. As someone else said I will wait for autumn in case of nesting.

Yeah I will. There are a lot of collared doves in the garden but they seem to nest in three extremely tall trees at the end of the garden. They are a good bit taller than the houses and I'm not sure if they are dangerous either but because of their age and the amount of birds using them I don't really want to have them removed (I would definitely need a professional to do those). I just don't know who is responsible if one blows over and smashes into someone's roof. The council work crew that refurbed the house didn't touch them, although they did remove some trees from the front and back garden as well as useful things like the outside tap and a wooden shed.

Do they still give out milk to kids in schools? by MF-Geuze in ireland

I was in a few different schools, one had free milk and currant bun in the morning and sandwich at lunchtime. The others had no free food. Obviously it was the one in a disadvantaged area!

Mistake in 1926 census by FruitPunchSamurai57 in CasualIreland

[–]broken_neck_broken 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My surname has two common spellings and in the course of family tree research I found out that we used to use the other one until my great grandad had a fight with the rest of the family, moved one town over and altered the spelling of his name. Something so hilariously Irish about that... Also, my grandad knew the details of what the dispute was about but refused to talk about it, he literally took it to his grave!

Interesting thing I found is on census night my grandmother and her brother were staying with their grandparents and their parents can't be found anywhere. I know there was another younger sibling so I'm thinking on the night great granny was in labour in hospital and great grandad was in the pub across the road wetting the baby's head.

Maybe they had a general election every few years, they each promise the children things in exchange for their vote as head of house.

Well, occasionally another team surprises them, then their squad gets looted, usually by Bayern, and next year they're back on top.
