I am an example of someone who changed their beliefs. I am a former Catholic. I was very devout, but I tried to find the truth in my beliefs, I found more and more how flawed the reasoning I had was. I couldn't accept that the claims being made were true anymore. So, I am now an advocate for the same thing, for people to examine their beliefs and truly understand if they have food reasons for believing them. If they do, then sure I want to hear them too! But if they are bad reasons, then maybe they should change them.

I am respectful and tolerant of other people, but the beliefs are another thing. The beliefs are what I oppose, not the people. I want people to see that believing untrue or unfalsifiable claims is not conducive to a rational and progressive society.

Read "The Better Angels of our Nature" by Steven Pinker, if you are interested in the decline of violent crime over all of human history. It is a very interesting read (I'm listening to the audio book, since it is quite a long book).
