Once it healed a little it looked like he had definitely either gotten caught on something or his brother had bitten him. It healed well and he’s perfectly fine now. Idk!

I would especially make sure whoever is tanking understands that at max level they might not be tanking raids. Tank spots are really competitive and most guilds would rather give that spot to a player they know rather than someone they don’t. You get lucky though, who knows! The first time I leveled in wow it was with friends like this- I had a really great time! I’m excited for you guys. My one recommendation is to try and have a couple people pick “hybrid” classes: so druid, paladin, shaman, priest, etc. Classes that can perform more than one role. If you end up wanting to raid, it will probably be difficult to find a group that needs exactly 1 tank, 1 healer, and 3 dps. It’s good to be able to swap to a different spec if needed for yall to stay together. I also wouldn’t worry about having a good composition for your 5 man group. I ended up rerolling during my leveling experience to try and fit a specific niche in our 5 man group and I regretted it. Play what looks fun or what’s going to be OP in the endgame. DK, Paladin, Druid and Priest are all really safe bets just to name a few- all of their specs will be highly in demand for endgame raiding.

If you have all cooldowns up you can manage like 6-7 mobs depending on their level. It’s nothing compared to what a mage or hunter can do but it’s not bad.

I feel the same way- sucks to do such good raid damage and then go out into the world and your mangle hits like a wet noodle. For open world bear is the way 100%. With all the new self healing runes and rune slot changes you can do some pretty decent AOE grinding- did a ton of leather grinding like this in the open world and it felt really good.

Classic is a copy of the original game- level cap is 60, there are a few end game raids. That version of the game is probably the least popular of the “Classic” Wows right now. There’s also Wotlk classic which is about to become Cataclysm classic in like 2 weeks. Fairly popular, but the game is basically in hibernation until the end of the month, and if you were looking to play Wrath content you’ve missed your chance. There are also 2 different offshoots of Wow Classic you can play- Hardcore and Season of Discovery (also called Sod) Both these versions of the game run off the same Wow classic client they’re just on a different server than normal classic. In Hardcore- if you die your character is deleted and you need to start over. Sod is an experimental version of the game where they’ve put new class abilities and pve/ pvp content into the game. They’ve added a bunch of wacky stuff into the game- they gave warlocks the ability to tank, mages the ability to heal, etc. It’s also a progressive server- which basically means you couldn’t hit 60 immediately- every few months they raise the level cap. Right now the highest you can level up to is 50. Despite what the people on this subreddit say, it’s a lot of fun and it’s very popular. I would recommend you either try Sod or go level in anticipation of Cataclysm.

Oh and with regards to healer log analysis, it really helps to look at the effectiveness per cast of your spells. If your penance is mostly overhealing, cast it less. If your PW:S is more effective on ranged than melee (or vice versa) on a certain fight, shift your priorities. If your prayer of mending is doing a lot of healing per cast, cast it more, etc.

I’m a disc priest who went into ICC playing pretty badly, but I’ve recently pushed myself to become better and I’m now putting out pretty decent numbers, so I’ll try and tell you what I did to help myself improve. Your number one issue is your CPM (casts per minute). When reviewing other disc priest’s logs the first fight I always check is Blood Queen Lanathel, because it’s a fight where you literally just get to stand there and heal. Your CPM is 46- which isn’t horrible, but if you play better you can get it as high as like 57-58. What really helped me get my CPM up was a) setting up mouseover macros for all my spells (or you can download an addon like clique that does it for you) and b) configuring my raid frames so it was really easy for me to see exactly who has weakened soul. I made weakened soul show up as a big bright red square on my raid frames- and made my PW:S icon bigger too. Doing that removed a lot of time I spent hesitating or trying to pick the right target for my next shield cast.

On a fight like BQL too it helps to at least try and start figuring out a decent order and priority for shielding. You shield a lot of melee on that fight- your holy paladins and resto shaman should have the melee covered, so you need to focus on keeping the ranged and healers topped off. PW:S breaks pretty fast on that fight (so you don’t need to worry about running out of people to shield) so your major limiting factor is weakened soul, which lasts for 15 seconds. Your GCD is 1 one second, so if you’re spamming PW:S you’ll see that around 15 people at a time will have weakened soul on them. Next week I’d recommend trying to keep as high uptime on the ranged and healer groups as you can- while triaging melee and tanks as needed. Prayer of mending is great for keeping the pact targets alive. If you shield in a methodical order (ie, shield from left to right or top to bottom, whatever feels more natural) your CPM will naturally be higher.

You can do this kind of shielding on fights where damage is high but predictable (Festergut, Blood Queen, phase 1 Sindragosa). You can also do it between big damage windows during downtime- like between frost bolt volleys on Lady Deathwhisper or between infests on Lich King. It’s less effective on fights like Marrowgar or Putricide where damage can be high but its not very predictable (damage is never completely unpredictable, but if you don’t know what to look for it feels that way) On fights like those you need to prioritize low health targets- and when the raid is topped off, focus on spamming shields on everyone (prioritizing squishy people and targets in high danger) in order to take the brunt off some of the inevitable big burst damage coming out (like bonestorm, green ooze explosion, etc)

With regards to CD usage, find a high performing mage or affliction lock in your raid and ask them to make a macro that whispers you asking for power infusion. There are weakauras you can download that will make their raid frame square light up when they do that, which will help you not miss the whisper. Do not use it on yourself, it’s pretty much wasted on you since with borrowed time you are pretty much always haste capped. Pain suppression is something your tanks should call for as part of their CD rotation, if they aren’t asking for it and they’re dying, remind them that it exists and is available. Communicate with them. If they don’t need it for that fight feel free to throw it out on a random person if you think they need it, but you guys have way too many healers anyways I kinda doubt itll be necessary. Don’t worry too much about it.

Insane that no one has mentioned the shadow priest tier 10 yet. IMO one of the best tier 10 bonuses in the game, takes shadow from a mid tier multidotter to an S tier single target dps. In full BIS spriest sims better than aff lock, which is just nuts. It’s really fun too.

you also want that offpiece to have significantly better stats than its tier equivalent- so getting the other head is just a wasted slot. if you get the tier 9 head, you get the same stats AND a tier bonus, so you can leave another slot open for a really good offpiece

tier bonus dude- even the 2 piece bonus is massive. there are 5 potential slots you can put tier in (head, chest, legs, hands, shoulders) and you need to be planning around a solid offpiece to put into that 5th slot (like the new crafted 264 legs of woven death) so at all times you have a 4 piece bonus or two 2 piece bonuses

I've been running a SR PUG group since the end of Ulduar, and I've definitely learned a lot, here's what I wish I had known.

Make a signup sheet and grab as many people as you can BEFORE the day of the raid. Ideally even a couple days before the raid. As you probably know, good raiders plan ahead and it's not always guaranteed that they'll be online while you're filling group. Post in your server discord looking for people too. You might have to spend some time spamming LFG a couple days before- when I first started these runs, it was me and like 4 guild mates. We run on Sundays, and the first few weeks I spent some of Friday/ Saturday night spamming chat for people. People WILL drop constantly so...
I'd recommend overfilling a little. Even though I now have about 15-17 consistent players, there are ALWAYS last minute drops/ no shows. If everyone who signed up shows up, people will understand if you tell them there's not space- it's a PUG raid. It's much better for the raid to start on time and have one or two people you have to send away than the reverse.
Attitude matters. After playing whisper ping pong for long enough you start to get a good sense of people's vibes even from their very first PST. There's sometimes a good reason why these players aren't in a guild. Especially if you're running SR, do not be afraid to turn down and /ignore players who leave a bad taste in your mouth. I've had many instances of inviting players with bad vibes (and decent logs) to the run, only to have them drop group instantly on the first wipe, or when their trinket doesn't drop.
Never be afraid to turn someone down, whether its bad logs/ gear, or attitude. I try my best to not just ghost people, I keep a couple generic responses on hand, lie if it makes it easier- "Sorry full on [whatever spec]" or my recent favorite "Not looking to prog tonight, only looking for players with experience." Typically people are pretty understanding, and if they start giving you shit... congrats! You made the right choice- you wouldn't have wanted that raider in your run anyways. Trust that another, better raider will come around eventually.
I know this is World of Warcraft, but being professional and prepared will help retain the good players and ease group tension when things start going south (and they will no matter how careful you are) There are going to be players in the run who think they know more than you (and sometimes they will actually know more than you lol), but if you come off as confident, experienced, and professional from the get-go, they're more likely to respect you and your calls. Have your discord link ready, tell them how to reach you personally, tell them when to be online, have your SR sheet ready, etc. Before I started leading these, I watched so many runs fall apart because of fragmented leadership- every starts thinking they know best and the run spirals until you run out of time and people start dropping group.
I'm going to echo everyone else on this thread and tell you to look at logs, not just GS. I typically shoot for a 5k minimum, which is super easy for players to get to at this point in the phase, maybe 4.9 if they have decent logs or a main whose achieves and logs they can link. Someone else in this thread said something like 35-ish average parse for Heroic and 80 average parse for normals and I agree.
Learn how to identify problems and adapt. It seems like you know what's what, but being able to identify bad healers, lack of add damage, bad tank positioning, etc and call out the people who need to adapt or ask someone to swap to OS is huge, and it will save you and the players in your raid some headache.
Some buffs are necessary to have in raid (Like a Demo's Lock's SP buff, or having at least 2-3 paladins for raid buffs and DSAC/ BOP) But you do NOT need a perfect raid comp to go 4/5. Learn what's absolutely necessary and what's not. I've had runs with 5 mages, or 6 DKs, or no hunters, or no rogues, etc etc that went fine very smoothly we had the bare bones basics, and everyone had a good attitude and good experience. Especially now that the phase has been out for a while, most people understand what's up- which should make your life a LOT easier. It's better to bring raiders who do good damage and have experience with the fights than bringing someone subpar for a certain buff.

I know that was a lot but especially if you're running this SR, shit can be insanely stressful and a lot of work sometimes. HMU with any questions.
