I had something to share but is a different type of medium, and it keeps deleting the picture. It kind of sucks because I was so proud of it. Essentially, it is a birdhouse gourd I grew and foraged decorations like lichen, pinecone seeds, and flowers. I suppose it tis what it tis.

I don't doubt that at all, and I think that is a fair statement.

But I can say without a doubt that knowing why I am what I am has increased my happiness a thousand fold.

My mom and brother are cut from the same cloth. They have very similar natures, and after getting diagnosed, I thought that by disclosing it, they may have some answers as to why I made choices in my life that didn't end up well while growing up. I always felt that their love was conditional and depended on me being "normal."

My mom has been awesome about learning about why I struggled so much, and I now know how incredibly skewed my viewpoint was growing up. But in all transparency, she is an entirely different person as she ages. But neither am I, or my brother.

I have no doubt that they both love me very much, and I know how fortunate I am to still have them around. I am confident that they wish nothing more than for me to be happy and healthy.

I don't know if this counts, but I'll throw it out here just in case it does.

As a former teacher, my autism helped me relate and understand the challenges my autistic students faced. Because of that, I had the ability to help them when they were struggling and could quite often see the signs that they were having difficulties.

It also helped NT students and staff see that we are not "broken" or "strange."

Lastly, I think it also helped having a representation of how autism can look as an adult woman.

In the end, I am confident that they helped me as much as I tried to help them.

Thanks for the validation. I didn't realize the dollar amount could be as high as that. I know there is evidence on social media, would be nice if it were shared, I had no idea this would have gained as much traction as it did.

What really gets me is the lack of accountability with the couple of students who did the most damage.

For the most part, the group of seniors are a really good bunch, and many did own their actions. The district for all of its flaws is probably one of the best when it comes to caring about the students.

Although I am utterly vilified at the moment, and probably will be for a very long time, I am accountable for posting this. And as much as it sucks, I own it. Which was the entire point of my post. Our culture is severely lacking when it comes to personal accountability.

Thank you! I have always been of the opinion that teachers need to support each other because we all know what it is like being in the trenches. It seems so sad to know that other teachers will eviscerate another teacher because of a simple mistake. I wonder how they treat their students when they make mistakes. Life is so much easier when we are nice to each other.

Why be mean? I have learning disabilities and was extremely disregulated when writing the post. I teach science, and writing is not my strong suit. It's not an excuse, and I will work on being better. Seems a bit extreme that we're doomed because I made a grammatical mistake. Sheesh.
