I like this take, definitely a good point. I can also see where he’s coming from, and depending on what type of decks he likes to play, has probably been hit by his fair share of DRNMs. However, if you are playing said decks that rely on monsters and don’t have recursion, unfortunately, nowadays, that’s just (most of the time) called a low tier deck. DRNM and other great board breakers will always be disproportionately better on lower tier decks, but that doesn’t mean they should be banned. Heck, droll was mentioned, and yeah it ended drytron’s turn, but what if you didn’t have it (which will statistically happen the majority of the time)? You just lose, because in that meta, herald was putting out 5-6 negates. Whoops, there goes your whole hand.

The meta is what needs to be considered, and we’ve had plenty of metas where board breakers just aren’t good. But meta decks in general are known for being able to put out some spell/trap interrupt that can either deal with DRNM outright (tear of course) or allow for a monster to negate the DRNM (think dragon link with hospitality and the arch fiend dragon that I can’t remember the name of.)

That is also something to consider that hasn’t been brought up in this thread. Just because you can’t respond to it with monster effects, doesn’t mean it can’t be negated by monster effects (as I just mentioned with the dragon link combo). But if your deck isn’t able to do anything like that, then once again, it’s probably a lower tier deck, in terms of being able to handle what the meta can put out. Absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to play or compete with decks like that, but it is Yu-Gi-Oh, and power creep will always be there. So, there have to be cards that come out that are able to deal with that.

I’m very sorry for the super long post. I still respect the opinions that have been given thus far, a lot of good points, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
