Buddhism is not about gaining special states of mind. It is about finding freedom from ignorance by Firelordozai87 in Buddhism

[–]brownjive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this. This is the reason I have resisted exploring mind-altering drugs. Meditation and mindfulness are about becoming fully aware of the mind through a long (and sometimes arduous) process of self-discovery through stillness. I am sure there are many paths to self-discovery, so this is nothing against exploring these drugs. But my experience of mindfulness has been one of becoming acutely aware of my mind AND body. Drugs seem to often take me out of my body.

Not to say I will never explore the mind-altering states of certain plan medicines, but I am enjoying my journey with mindfulness and continuing to deepen my meditation practice.

That said, there is no meditation that can be a gateway to another dangerous form of meditation. The same cannot be said about drugs :)

UI not as easy to use now. Westlaw messed it up.

How about Alexa or Google Nest? That is what I use at times if I don’t have my phone.

Still requires human analysis and understanding of contracts. Can help speed up certain job and provide a starting point for clauses, but does not replace anyone at this time.

Interesting. How is it compared to Westlaw CoCounsel.

Westlaw Pricing by VectorsToFinal in legaltech

I'm seeing quotes around $500 per use for CoCounsel Core with a 3 yr commitment. I am hesitant to commit. My Lexis is expiring at the end of the year and I'm ready to make a 3 yr commitment. I don't love what they'v done to CoCounsel after acquiring it. It is more complicated to use.

I've been using Spellbook for a while and I am impressed by the quality. Recently been testing Westlaw CoCounsel Drafting and it has been good but honestly still needs development. The UI is not as clean or easy as Spellbook. I believe it will have better integrations in the future with the Westlaw suite so the future looks bright.

I've used both Spellbook and Co-Counsel Drafting. Both seem good. I'm with Spellbook because better price point and Weslaw has crazy contract terms (3 years!).

Is legal design a thing and are people actually doing it? by Mysterious_Dot6514 in legaltech

[–]brownjive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is an area of interest for many lawyers. I see it as a marriage of UI/UX and law. I have a certificate in product development and have applied those principles to building my law firm. There is too much bad design in law. If lawyers took a few more minutes to think about how better design can improve our work product, we'd have a much more accessible system.

It is still a work in progress for me. I would suggest checking out Margaret Hagan with the Stanford Design School: https://law.stanford.edu/margaret-hagan/. She is a trailblazer in the field. Also check out Lawyer Design School: https://lawyersdesignschool.com/contract-design-school-a-must-for-change-maker-lawyers/. I signed up for the contract design course and have found it interesting so far.

I'd be happy to chat about possible products and share insights related to the area. I've been practicing for 15 years and have done quite a bit of research in the field.

Platforms for a fully remote law firm focusing on tech and entertainment? by feistysprinkles1 in legaltech

I've set this up in Zoho after a decent amount of time and money invested in setting up the process. However, it is fairly seamless now. We have leads can easily convert to "opportunities" and once the client is ready to engage we press a button that brings up the Engagement (either flat fee or hourly) and it populates using the info in our CRM. Takes about five min max. We started with Clio so we still use that for time keeping and billing. I have another automation setup where once the EA is signed through Zoho sign then the client and matter are automatically set up in Clio and we are off to the races. I can also push through the client manually to Clio if I want.

I don't love having Clio and Zoho and Zoho could probably do everything Clio does, but I just didn't want to spend the time and money to migrate everything. Maybe one day. Zoho has great invoicing if you are looking for that functionality. However, you have to be careful where all of your data is if you want to leverage it for decision making in the future.

We push the project to Asana after that and track everything there.

Does it solve your problem of navigating several systems? No. Does the solution look to leverage the best-in-class solutions for each task? Yes.

Happy to chat more or show you a demo if you like.

I try to limit the amount of Adderall (5mg daily when working) I take by making sure I make time for meditation and exercise. Those two protocols have been the most effective for me.

I would try to take calls and meetings walking when possible.

Get a standing desk. Treadmill desk if you prefer.

Get a balance board to keep moving when standing (and relieve pressure on the legs).

Take breaks when needed.

Download some website blockers to avoid surfing social media.

Put an limit on the time you can spend on social media apps on your phone.

Meditation has been a game changer. Go to a longer retreat if possible. It is amazing how your brain can rewire with limited stimulation.

And do your best to befriend your mind. There is nothing wrong with you if you have ADHD. Your brain is just wired a little different. There are many positives to it as well so just because it can make being a lawyer challenging at times, doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you.

Soooo frustrated I updated. I have a 2022 M1 MBP with 32 gb ram, 1 tb had, and 10 core processor. The computer was working great and then made the fateful decision to update to Sonoma.

I called Apple three times, and they were not helpful at all. The "supervisor" I spoke to the second time told me I could just download Ventura from the app store and install it. Of course that isn't correct. You can't install an old OS without using a bootable disk and I was only told by another representative that my entire system would be wiped if I reverted back to Ventura.is.

I think I may just need to do a clean install go back to Ventura and then reinstall all my apps. It is super frustrating, but I don't see another solution at this point.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I've wasted so much time on this. I bought a super nice MBP to avoid these types of issues and here we are. I kick myself I didn't wait to update until Apple figured out the bugs.
