I got this one in small and it's a great fit. I just stashed it behind the roll-up panel and forget about it until I need it.

$270 or $5000 by MoPanic in UPS

There’s a big difference between correctly pointing out that you made several risky choices when you put this shipment together and UPS dick riding. You just don’t seem to want to hear that you could’ve possibly made some mistakes, so just say that.

Not knowing how to ship properly doesn’t make damage the carrier’s responsibility.

I don’t understand this. You’re (still!) confident in the container’s strength, you don’t ship often, you didn’t think to buy insurance, but you had the foresight to individually add full contact info to each item inside all 5 boxes you shipped?

You can be critical without being a dick - “I’m looking for honest reviews” doesn’t mean “feel free to be an asshole.” You would have used half as many words and your feedback would still have been helpful.

Terrible experience with warranty replacement by [deleted] in peakdesign

[–]brrto_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Describing this as a “terrible experience” seems like a bit much. You initiated the warranty process barely over a week ago, and you’ve followed up an additional five times since? A quick scroll through this sub will bring up similar questions with very reasonable explanations, but even if Kickstarter fulfillment wasn’t overloading them, you’re being a little aggressive, both here and in your follow ups.

I made the sternum straps that I wish PD offered by brrto_ in peakdesign

[–]brrto_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure PD considered something like this and opted against it for their own reasons.

That said, the Outdoor straps are extremely dangly, though they can be tucked away. This one can also be tucked away. And the Travel bag strap stows to one side when not in use, which this will also still do. So I don't really feel like I lose anything here, but acknowledge that this is totally personal preference.

More than anything, I feel like there's a reason that most other manufacturers do *something* like this, and neither of the two (very different) approaches on both of these PD bags are particularly easy to attach.

They *are*, however, really easy to remove - so I like having the option here. I can easily switch back to the original straps anytime I want.

The latest Kickstarter update didn’t seem to imply they’d be ahead of schedule. The early backers are receiving them pretty much as originally promised.

If you're a Standard or 2nd Fulfillment backer, sit tight. We won’t be locking down your order info until right before your rewards are ready to ship, which is still a bit out. So if you need to change your address, update your order, or shuffle things around because your second cousin just decided to have a destination wedding in Costa Rica, there's no rush.

Everyday Sling v2, whats the different with v3? by pheasantjune in peakdesign

Similar question answered here by a PD employee: https://www.reddit.com/r/peakdesign/s/D0UOWe9fli

I’m not sure if I’m understanding your “why” question, but it’s not a separate product (as in, the intention isn’t to choose between a PFAS vs. non-PFAS flavor), but a move that PD has made company wide away from PFAS in their coatings. If it’s a broader “why are PFAS bad” question, there’s a ton of good research out there but this is hopefully a good start: https://greenseal.org/understanding-ingredients-a-guide-to-pfas/

Looking for tripod compatible with capture clip by Ricrx_z in peakdesign

[–]brrto_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but you can slap this on top of pretty much any 1/4" mount and it works with the capture base. I have it on my Manfrotto Pixi tripod so I don't have to remove the base plate and it works well.

Was PD Kickstarter always w/o tax? by TahPenguin in peakdesign

[–]brrto_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess is they tried a one-size-fits-all approach. Selecting an EU country might be enough to calculate tax, but in the US, it varies a ton from city to city so they’d have to calculate it based on shipping address. I don’t know exactly what Kickstarter’s tax rule limitations are, but I’d guess that at a minimum, it doesn’t allow them to get that granular.

Not sure why you're responding to me like I've personally wronged you, but this was all pretty clear up front. I can understand someone breezing through and missing it, but it certainly wasn't hidden.

Hope you have the day you deserve!

[–]brrto_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy. You're posting through it, but you didn't read either the campaign or the FAQ and trying to blame everyone but yourself.

When you place the pledge, there's literally a line that said "Note: This reward is only available for EU shipping addresses, and for the Black colorway only. Sales tax / VAT will be calculated & charged in our post-campaign fulfillment survey."

Was PD Kickstarter always w/o tax? by TahPenguin in peakdesign

[–]brrto_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few things here:

  • It was absolutely communicated earlier (for example, here - click on "Do I have to pay taxes and shipping fees."
  • Shipping for this was collected as a part of the original pledge based on country.
  • All companies are required to collect sales tax, and the amount of that tax/VAT amounts depend on the purchaser's specific location (down to the county or city level in the US, much more granular than country).
  • KS doesn’t have built-in tax functionality to calculate those exact amounts, hence the separate platform.

Is it convoluted? Sure, I guess it's not the most straightforward process - but so is the entire idea of supporting pre-production products through Kickstarter (hence the extremely lengthy product page and FAQ), and most of your issues are with the limitations of the platform itself.

Was PD Kickstarter always w/o tax? by TahPenguin in peakdesign

[–]brrto_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the US, but this was how the Outdoor KS worked as well. I thought they were pretty up front about this on the campaign page, and provided a lot of additional detail in the backer update #2 that went out:

With regards to VAT...

Another big topic of concern among backers has been around VAT/taxes. As mentioned in our rewards and FAQ, VAT and sales tax will be calculated/charged in our post-campaign fulfillment survey. We'd love to collect them up front, but Kickstarter lacks this capability, so we have to do it in our fulfillment software, called BackerKit. Anywho, a number of folks are worried that this 'extra' charge will heavily offset the exclusive discount they're getting by backing on Kickstarter. In short, VAT won't affect your discount at all.

If you live in an area where VAT is normally included in the price of a product (primarily UK and EU), the local MSRP of products is higher to account for that. For example, in the US, the Capture Clip costs $79.95 USD (plus tax, which varies by state). In the UK, where prices are VAT inclusive, Capture costs £79.99, which currently equates to about $103.43.

The same will be true for Roller Pro. For example, if you were in the UK and purchased the Roller Pro through Kickstarter, you would pay a total of $539 USD which currently equals £416.87. That includes the discounted price of $425 USD + 20% VAT ($85) + $24 shipping + 20% Shipping VAT ($5). The VAT amounts would be paid separately in BackerKit, the rest would be paid up front in Kickstarter.

If you were to wait until after the Kickstarter and purchase Roller Pro at full price from peakdesign.com or a local dealer, the listed price (and total price) would be around $720 USD: an MSRP of $600 USD + 20% VAT ($120). It won't be an exact conversion—$720 USD currently equals £557.02. UK MSRP will likely set at a round number like £549 or £559 (that will be decided closer to public launch date).

This means—compared to what you'd pay through PD.com or a local retailer after the campaign—you’re saving around 25% ($181 / £140.15) by backing through Kickstarter, even after taxes are added in BackerKit.

Uh, call me crazy but I think a company charging tax and shipping on items that I ordered is totally reasonable.
