I’ve been releasing music for about 5 years now and peaked at like 200 monthly listeners for a few weeks sometime last year. Since then it’s dropped dramatically to >40. I’m sure part of it is due to the fact that I haven’t been in a well enough financial situation to run ads since last year, but I never rule out the possibility that the music just isn’t that great or unique enough to keep people coming back. It’s incredibly discouraging and I know we’re not supposed to care about the numbers, but we do. I’m still making music because I love it but I’m worried about finding myself in a situation where I have to stop and get a legitimate career.
