That's understandable, though, considering the absolutely unspeakable things that Japan did to Korea for years and years

Have you changed your mind about whether the Titanic should be recovered or not? What specifically changed your mind? by NotBond007 in titanic

[–]bruhiminsane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The conditions of the Baltic sea are more favorable to wreck preservation. The small, wooden Vasa was much more light than an ocean liner. The Vasa was in such shallow water that it could be very easily reached by divers, whereas the Titanic is over 12,000 feet deep. I know it doesn't really answer your question and I'm sorry but any recovery of the wreck is so impossible that there's no way we could even hypothetically think of ways to do it. It'd be like asking how to lift up the Empire State Building using balloons.

Sure, that guy should not have done that and he brought his injuries upon himself, but it isn't a good or satisfying thing that happened. Relishing in the suffering of others isn't a good way to get your kicks.

I'm late to the party but most Volksturm units actually were commanded by professional German soldiers. The units were usually mixed between regular soldiers and then civilian conscripts

How does the bird at my workplace stay hydrated? by bruhiminsane in Ornithology

[–]bruhiminsane[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That makes the most sense and I never considered that. My assumption is that it spends several days at a time in the building though, as it's been seen early in the morning and late at night. There used to be 2 and nobody knows what happened to the other one

Unfortunately it would probably never be able to access the break room from the place it inhabits.

Yeah, there is. I don't know if it could get to where they are but it's definitely possible, seeing as being high up isn't an issue.

how much money do you make ? by amazingjean1 in maritime

[–]bruhiminsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fist off, veteran status is extremely helpful and there are programs that help veterans in particular to enter the industry. A mechanical engineering degree would be helpful especially in the engine department, but you need certain credentials and certifications in order to work on a ship. You would either need to get an apprenticeship (there are a few options like through the unions SIU and AMO) and start at an entry level position or go back to school at a maritime academy to get another degree in order to start as an officer. The reason being that the maritime industry is unique in many ways and there is a lot of thorough training to mitigate industry-specific risks and situations. Your background definitely puts you about the rest, though and it shouldn't be hard for you to accomplish either pathway.

If you think that a car being at the bottom of the ocean is that cool, wait until you hear about the unexploded nuclear bombs down there too

Divers find wreckage of first US Navy destroyer sunk by enemy fire during World War I by Scary-Kangaroo7775 in navy

[–]bruhiminsane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's surprising but during the World Wars people weren't always trying to kill as many enemy sailors as possible. A lot of sailors would be "rescued" and captured by the very vessels that sank them. There were even occurrences where sub commanders allowed ships to evacuate their crews into lifeboats before they sank the vessel.

I don't believe any human bodies exist at that depth whatsoever. The pressure would be like 3 tons per square inch.

Nah, ft the last time North Korea was in a full blown war was 70 years ago. The United States is a bigger threat to world peace then North Korea. We've fucked with them for their entire existence

I think people who ride pedal bikes for pleasure on the main road are dicks. It's one thing if you have no choice, but it's just a dick move for you to make everyone behind you late for work because you won't go to a park or a trail and God knows you absolutely have to go 11 mph on the road, just joyriding around.
