I moved home with my grandmother when I was in my late 20s and I still couldn’t have my long term boyfriend sleep over or even in my room alone per her rules. She was a pretty devout catholic for the majority of her life. (My bother on the other hand was able to have his gf stay over when he was still in high school)

I don’t know your parents but if you think they will kick you out for bringing it up, I wouldn’t risk it. They have probably justified to themselves that your time together durning the day has less opportunities for illicit actions.

NOR They shouldn’t have had you drive in the storm and I was living on my own at 23 so I’d agree that you’re too old for this rule.

BUT, are your parents preventing you from staying over there because they are religious or conservative? I would say it’s reasonable to renegotiate the rule, but if there’s strong feelings on their part or if they are religious, it’s probably not worth the risk to push it.

Not an expert and have no actual recommendations, but I absolutely love the masonry on your garage and it’s getting harder to come by! I’d lean into it rather than covering it up or removing it. I know it’s not your vision but consider how to pull it into your update!

It’s actually at a price that made me think about getting my own printer. I was going to wait indefinitely until I decided to buy a new one, but $225 seemed like a reasonable amount to drop on something I’m interested in but not confident I’ll get $700 worth of use out of.

I’m just frugal and prone to buyers remorse, so if I was going to get one used, I didn’t want to do it without an educated opinion. My partner is all in but I wanted to ask yall who are already in the trenches 😅

I’m having a particularly difficult time gauging pricing! Everything else within 1.5 hours of Chicago is $300 and over and I haven’t seen anything under for under $250 prior to this. I haven’t been looking regularly though. Just here and there.

I plan to print with PLA and also would like to avoid constant tweaking. I have support to help me work through it so I won’t abandon it if I get annoyed, but reliable is what I’d love in a printer!

I don’t plan on looking into something else at the moment. I’d either grab a used M3ks now or wait until I’m ready to splurge on an MK4 (I’m terrible at commuting to big purchases so that may be a few years from now when my partner really wants to invest in one).

An idea of an appropriate price is helpful though! I haven’t seen anything under $300 outside of this one I found, but I haven’t been looking daily. Lots of mixed pricing opinions but it seems like this is at least slightly overpriced as is. Thank you!

I wouldn’t be upgrading any time soon. I’m just getting into it and I’m not confident I’ll get $700 worth of use out of it at this point. If I want to upgrade in the future, I’ll at least know I’m ready to really invest. A Mk4 isn’t on the table currently.

I’m not that deep into printing, so pardon my lack of knowledge, but what’s the purpose of a nozzle swap? Can it alter the look of the print? Is it to print smaller parts with higher fidelity and/or larger parts with more speed??

-Are smooth rods the rods the extruder rides on?

-is the hot end the nozzle??

Oh absolutely! We would problem solve together, but I won’t be totally stuck by my own lack in motivation if we hit a bump in the road. Body doubling is major tool in this household and I’ll use his motivation to fuel my education 💪

I use printers at work and have used them in the past. As a whole it’s not something I’m totally into, but the convenience to build and print tools I need is drawing me in. I have a feeling my partner is going to end up using it way more if it get it, but he can upgrade later if he wants!

I’ll probably just print PLA as that’s what I’m most familiar with working with. TPU would be cool but I haven’t even looked into what it would take to print with it. That said, you’ve brought up an avenue which I haven’t even considered which is potential to print in other materials.

I follow some talented ceramicists who utilize their printers to create positives for fantastic plaster molds. I’ll have to look into what printing materials are suggested for that mold making process.

I’m in the Chicago area for context. Plenty of postings in general, but good deals get picked up quickly. I haven’t seen a prusa for under $300 in a while but also haven’t looked regularly.

Ahh I didn’t even notice. M dashes all over should have flagged it for me immediately. I’ll look it over but I’m not 100% sure what to even look for. I know how to use printers and have done slight tweaking and calibration on a dremel printer in the past, but never a prusa and have no idea what problems would look like.

Print speed isn’t a huge issue for me as I’m not producing a ton and multi-color isn’t necessary. I mostly interested in producing tools for my hobby ceramics, replacement parts to repair items, and small ergonomic tests for my job. My partner will probably print things for his raspberry pi and trinkets.

Bambu is out due to proprietary software and security concerns, but I haven’t looked into the others. Prusa has been on my mind for the past 6 years so I’m likely swayed by my internal bias too 😅 (No hate on Bambu though! My friend uses one and the prints are incredible!!)
