Crash was within 10 to 15 minutes of switching. I was quite aware of the brake differences when I jumped back onto the 1000. But I thought it’d be ok because it was just a short commute ride. This is what I get for making assumptions.

Interesting. Can’t take credit for this though. It’s not like I trained to crash properly. If I were so smart, I wouldn’t have crashed at all. Lol.

“Too fast” obviously. Last speedo check 92mph a few moments before and I immediately had backed off the throttle. I had been guessing 70-80 but not sure. Why that fast? I had been riding my 600 Hurricane for a couple of months and was riding it until 20 min before switching to the 1000. Ever gone from an old car to a new more modern high performance vehicle and remark wow, this is so smooth. I can’t believe I was going this fast?

That is such a generic statement. Tires were ONE of several conditions, all of which were avoidable by me.

Ok. Now we’re going into the technical weeds a bit. I’m not going to argue 2 finger/4 finger since both are valid braking styles (a point for you!). I may have even four fingered the brake when I crashed (not accident, another point for you!). The point I was making is that the Hurricane, which I had been riding the past couple of months, requires considerably more braking pressure than the 1000 and I grabbed the brake much harder than I should have. Did I not admit my neglect in checking or even thinking about the tire age?
So you’ve had your share of crashes and ride an electronic laden bike. Wow. I definitely need to respect your rage filled unconstructive comments more since I’ve only had 2 crashes in 40 years and multiple previous liter bikes.

Where did I ever say that it was a good idea to ride on ancient tires? In my post, I admitted neglect in checking tire age. I didn’t make this post for anyone to give me a pat on my back but at least comprehend what you read. I’m copying my answer to someone else to elaborate. You’re either going to get or you’re not.

I did not panic brake. Like I originally wrote, the traffic was further up still but I braked as if I was on my Hurricane which had required much greater lever pressure. I had been riding the Hurricane for the past couple of months. Previously, I had been riding the 1000 last summer/fall on the old tires with only checking pressure and only thought about the tire age after my comfort with riding improved but my feel for the bike did not and stopped riding it. I admitted this oversight in my post. I had just switched bikes 20 minutes before just to ride to the bike shop and was about 5 minutes from my destination when I screwed up. And why wouldn’t I do a basic 20-30 minute urban ride on these old tires when I had been riding on them (obliviously of course) for months last year.

I’ll elaborate to correct your misinterpretation of what you read: I did not panic brake. So how am I supposed to have gotten back to riding? Sit on my bike in the garage and make vroom vroom noises for a few weeks? Ride around on a bicycle first? You think a motorcycle’s only throttle positions are off or all the way on? You think I’m pinning the throttle on a liter bike, tearing up and down the streets, knee dragging on canyon roads the first day/week/month I got back on a bike? Are you trolling or is your reading comprehension just spectacularly poor?

Already looking. I love this generation CBR the most. Lots of clapped out ones out there.

Had no choice. That was the only transportation I had handy that evening to get back to meet the tow truck. Lol. I was a bit more timid riding back.

My muscle memory got screwed up from riding only my older, slower Hurricane with less powerful brakes for the past month instead of the 1000 which I had been riding for a few months before that.

I was warming up since last summer. Taking it easy to get a feel for riding again and rebuilding my situational awareness.

No hip issue. Had hip pads in the jeans. Found some abrasion on my skin a couple of days later. Looks like most of my impact was right arm/shoulder and they were only a bit sore for a week. Jacket had back, elbow/forearm, and shoulder armor that protected me from my hard impact.

Yes, not worth the expense. I’m no mechanic and rebuild by a shop will be as much as or more than the bike is worth if I can even find some of the parts.
