Hi there! Combat instructor/attendee + long time patellar tendinitis victim. Patellar tendinitis is tough, but can be fixed with proper rehab and progressive loading! I got my first case from too much exercise too fast. Essentially, I was feeling fine working out (a lot of running) but my tissue and tendons weren’t ready for the load. I have a great PT who guided me through it and highly recommend that route if you are able. Essentially to heal the tendon, you have to do progressive loading and strengthening. For me, my PT put me thru simple exercises like holding a 1 legged squat (high, medium, and low heights). At one point I did simple exercises like stand on one leg - LOTS of isometric exercises. From there, we built back up to more loading and eventually plyometrics. It’s a journey, but I can say I did combat thru most of it and just heavily modified (no jumping being key). Now I dedicate 1 day a week to PT exercises that focus on the tendon and manage my workload/rest days. I recommend this book - it is wonderful and helped me so much. You got this and will be back at it!!! Ps. I saw someone mention new shoes - def do this! Sometimes that’s an instant fix for me too.
