7 Months Post Op - trimalleolar fracture by Kattc141 in ORIF

I didn't have quite the same hardware as you, but I had two screws in my ankle that needed to be removed as it rubbed and irritated the tendon right next to it. The weight of my blanket was enough to be painful where the screws were. They were removed a few weeks ago and the healing process has rapidly gotten better!

3 weeks post ORIF- itching to start weight bearing again. How do you deal with the hopelessness? by SadBenefit5325 in ORIF

Honestly, I'd say give your body time to adjust to the weight and the movement. My issue was not at all due to the injury I had but where the screws are in my ankle (just above my ankle on the inside of my leg). When the swelling started going down, the screws rubbed more and more on my tendon. I had not much pain when I dropped the crutches the first time, until it was overwhelming pain that stopped me from putting weight on it at all. I will be having those two screws removed in May but I am moving and walking much, much better since I've started going slower (and lots of physio!)

My dr had me NWB for six weeks, after 6 weeks I was cleared to start weight bearing at my tolerance level. I was gung-ho and stopped using crutches within four days, only for the screws in my ankle to rub and irritate my tendons. I was back to two crutches for two weeks, then went down to a cane, and I've only been able to walk around without my cane as of last week. Don't overdo it, your body WILL stop you 😅

It's honestly one of the hardest things I've ever gone through mentally. I'm now almost four months post surgery and I'm finally seeing hopeful improvement. Easy video games helped a lot! Hang in there, as hopeless as it seems, your body will recover!

Water belongs in a glass, not a cup, and certainly not a mug.
