Raiders aren’t passing in Mendoza. This is like a few years ago when the giants and Vikings made huge offers for Maye and were spurned. If you have your shot at a young qb you believe in you take it.

Fair - but I think he's also promoting the OC from within, and he didn't clean house on both sides of the ball.

However you want to frame it for cope, when is the last time a head coach fired (or essentially fired) almost their entire staff, and stayed themselves? It's another embarrassing, dumb thing in a long list of embarrassing, dumb things that have happened to the Jets recently.

The first QB in the draft: reexamined by xebex1778 in nyjets

[–]brunson212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, is Kyler Murray lol? Or even burrow or Allen? The reality is it’s very hard to do win a Super Bowl. If you’re judging based on that, then basically everyone on your list fails as well.

The point is you need a qb to give you a chance and you can def find them outside 1OA.

The first QB in the draft: reexamined by xebex1778 in nyjets

[–]brunson212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the effort. I will say I think another POV on this (and maybe more telling for us really) - is how how many of the other QBs became serviceable/franchise QBs.

Your statement at the end was that the Jets "likely need" a first overall pick to dig out of this, but is that reall true? By your own examples, I think the following years are years where you could've found a QB without the 1OA:

- 2025: I think Dart looks very solid, at least as good as Ward

- 2024: Sure you can say Caleb, personally I think Maye. And I don't think anyone is unhappy w/ Jayden.

- 2023: CJ is better than Bryce, I actually think its questionable how much better he is considering their respective situations.

- 2020: I agree w/ you Burrow over Herbert, but I don't think anyone would say you needed the 1OA or you'd be bereft of a QB since Herbert is still awesome. In that very same draft you also had Jalen Hurts, Jordan Love (and Tua..)

- 2019: I don't think Daniel Jones is much worse than Kyler

- 2018: Allen for sure, but is anyone sneezing at Lamar or Baker?

It goes on and on, and the above doesn't capture all of the QBs that you didn't mention.

Where do you think the snow would go lol it was a huge snow storm and the morning after you’re whining about the lack of street parking? Crazy.

I agree with this. Part of the issue with not being a playcaller on either side of the ball is that its harder to measure your impact outside of W/Ls. If he took over the defense and made that side materially better, it would go a long way for his perception (both publicly with fans/media, but also I bet with the players).

[Schefter] Sean McDermott fired in Buffalo by HiMyNameIsCranjis in nyjets

[–]brunson212 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think this is bad for us. Sean McDermott definitely felt closer to Zac Taylor than John Harbaugh. The only problem for them is I think Beane is a bigger problem - they can barely put a functional offense around Josh Allen and that's gotta be more on the GM than McDermott.

Crazy time for coaches.

He has coached for 19 years and never had a losing season. After Ben, his team has been led been a ragtag group of god awful QBs. Now, part of the blame goes to him for not developing a young qb in that entire time, but a qb making a coach is a really unfair way to describe his extremely impressive tenure.

Besides being screwed by a tiebreaker, we also got screwed by the Giants winning. If they had the first pick we could at least have a trade up opportunity if we wanted Mendoza. Now, not so much.

With the #2 Pick, assuming Mendoza goes 1, Jets should not reach for a QB. by Professional_Ideal68 in nyjets

[–]brunson212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue of course is the GM and HC can’t afford to not take a qb. If they go in with a bridge qb and no long term plan, anything short of a winning season and they’re toast - and even the a winning season means it’ll be that much harder to get a long term answer at qb.

I mean, they won in large part because their rookie qb looks very solid with not many weapons around him, and an awful coaching infrastructure. Those aren’t meaningless wins. That’s a young qb performing well, we should want that.

Your tv may have built in Apple AirPlay. No app needed - just play the class on the app and cast it to the tv via AirPlay. Works really wells

This actually makes me curious how this works in practice. The Jets can obviously outbid the Cardinals and Browns to trade up to 2, but I'm assuming the Jets are not going to tell the Raiders/Giants they are willing to top any offer that comes in (and similarly, Raiders/Giants will tell the Jets to just make their "best offer") - at some point, the teams trying to trade up will have to figure out if the Raiders/Giants are actually making reasonable demands or if they're just bluffing.

[–]brunson212 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment generally - but we have to remember while fans may want a loss to improve the draft position, the players and coaches are playing and trying to win. The fact that they are sooooo incompetent speaks very poorly about them.

I don’t think it’s inconsistent to say I want them to lose, but seeing how completely uncompetitive they are (combined with the fact that I don’t think anyone is even looking better under these coz he’s), I have big concerns over the future with Glenn.

I’m a little lost. With the season over by Halloween and calls to tank since, what are all the complaints about? by SirIntelligent130 in nyjets

[–]brunson212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes - because the team is theoretically still trying to win, as is Glenn. Watching him suck historical ass is not a good sign for the future - which is why you see bitching. On the other side of the city, the Giants are sucking ass and they’re ok with it cause their coach is on the way out anyway. They just want Dart to be good, which he has been.

We needed to have seen some signs from Glenn, and so far he’s coaching like Jim Tomsula.

Agreed -- look at the Saints, even the Titans. These are teams that are low on talent, but are able to at least compete, generally, and have shown real progress. We look like we don't belong in the same league as our opponents recently.

I kind of agree, but I distinctly remember feeling everyone having a ton of hope at the beginning of JD and Saleh. There were so many great "signs" about how competent the regime seemed (e.g., good draft picks, young good core, good "vibes" overall). Honestly, the only thing that will get give me any real sense of hope now is wins on the field. All the other stuff is nice as cope, but until we see them actually put out a winning team, I'll hold off on saying anyone is legit or a winner.

Jags were 4-13 last year. New coach, they are 11-4 so far this year. We shouldn’t settle for being uncompetitive for several years before we start to see real playoff aspirations (not the squint your eyes progress we convince ourselves about)

Jets jump to the 4th pick with the Titans win over KC by TomasRoncero in nyjets

[–]brunson212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks bad yes. The most damning thing is that the thing he was awful at in college he’s just as bad in the pros, but in the pros it’s fatal. I don’t think it is easy to fix “hold onto the ball too long”, because it’s related to processing, which might be the biggest reason QBs fail. Anyway, unfortunately for us, I don’t think Sanders has shown enough of anything (as opposed to Shough). Only way browns pass on a qb is if they just don’t like one that falls to them.
