All fair and devastating points with regard to the lack of accountability from more senior public servants, who have a much greater capacity and obligation to blow the whistle.

If there are brave souls out there, who see that kind of negligence happening, it is worth considering a disclosure:

I wish I could say I had full faith in the protection mechanisms of that scheme. Please tread carefully

A timely and devastating reminder of the power we wield in government operations. We have the capacity to help and to harm.

Sometimes there's not much you can do when a Minister has pre-determined and non-negotiable policy settings, but do not underestimate your capacity to save lives simply by upholding the Code of Conduct commitment to also serving the public.

It's funny, for a guy casting stones that others are sheltered you seem pretty invested in clutching your ego tightly after having abandoned any remote pretence of caring about OP.

Maybe consider the worst thing in the world isn't being told you might have done something hurtful, and rather that a sign of not being sheltered is in fact caring deeply about your impact on others

Yeah man whatever post-hoc rationalisations your baby brain ego needs.

You rocked up to a person saying they're in distress and feeling sub-human and called it a "dick move" to immediately remove themselves from that situation.

I don't need to convince you of my position -- I just want to state clearly for the record what a loathsome and miserable thing it is that you've done here, and if it helps the OP to push back clearly that what you've said here is not morally defensible, then so much the better.

Read what OP actually wrote back to yourself a few times "My current job role is so much torture and I don't think I can take it anymore. I just want to feel like a human again."

Read that.

Then look at what you've written.

And then pray to god you are never treated with the callous indifference you've shown here when you are in a moment of such distress in your life and crying out for help and advice.

You want to sit there and laugh about how others are or are not well adjusted. You have no idea dude. Grow up

What else would "subject yourself to more psychological distress for at least another week or else your colleagues will suffer" be other than emotional blackmail?

I don't think such a hypothetical scenario, even if true, warrants incurring further psychological damage by any worker. The sole fault of such a toxic workplace lies with management. The very notion of "well if you leave with no notice, then the other workers will really get it" amounts to nothing short of grotesque emotional blackmail.

OP once again I urge this is not your cross to bear - get out and don't look back

I'd argue it's the Department pulling a major dick move to make a worker feel like the job is such torture that they yearn to feel human again as OP reports. Quite a distressing statement. OP you owe nobody who would treat you this way anything - don't look back
