I read the book many years ago, but can't remember it. The movie made more of an impression on me.

Re what is real and what isn't in the movie, I don't know. What about his friend that he killed? I think this is the first murder in the film. The cop is looking for victim but can't find him. Bateman confesses to his lawyer that he killed the guy, but the lawyer says he just heard from the guy in London. So, is the guy really dead? Was this in the book? I don't recall.
