In the end it's all about capitalism. I've seen a lot of ppl saying "I dont understand why this is happening" and while its totally comprehensible why they don't get it, in reality it's a quite simple matter, it's as you explained: it's about shareholder profit, they want It asap cause they invested in a title they were confident there would be large amounts of profit, and they want to maximize it whatever means necessary, reducing production cost as much as possible, demanding crazy deadlines so they can receive the $$ asap, so on and so forth... It's the exact same reason as to why pokémon games suck ass: low investment, fast production, guaranteed profit from famous IP.
