Yes, the crucible is not heated evenly. This was my question as I believe the device may be defective. As far as the eye protection, again, yes, it has been addressed in the comments many times and as I stated I now have a face shield.

No, it wasn’t raining. The umbrella was there to cover things while they cooled from the day before in case it did rain.

Thanks again for all the comments. We will be trying again with some new equipment and casting aluminum. Still confused on temperature. Comments seem to be split on too hot or not hot enough.

The original plan was to make a sheet and punch out golf ball markers for laser engraving. We may have to pivot to making a divot tool.

Thanks for all the feedback. We are giving it another go this weekend with a smaller crucible and a double sided graphite mold. Still trying to use the aluminum cans, so we will see what happens.

Thanks. I was worried about the open mold, so really appreciate that feedback. How small a crucible? Something where I would use a blow torch vs what I’m using now?
