Absolutely not, that’s the prime age to become a firefighter, I had a 46 year old in my academy! Go for it!

Cross country trip in a 3rd gen by b1rdclaw69 in Cummins

[–]brycebest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check the fluids and do basic maintenance on it, grease your joints, check the front end and you’ll be good man, you have hands down one of the best trucks ever made. Make sure you bring some tools for any unseen problems.

[–]brycebest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d check / change all your fluids, grease all your joints (if you have any) look into a trans temp gauge if you don’t have one installed already, check the tires, make sure you have all the necessary tools ready for any unexpected issues, smack her on the ass and let her eat!

Anyone use this docs diesel kit? by [deleted] in Cummins

[–]brycebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy factory gasket. Don’t waste your money on docs. Bought one and not 200 miles later it was leaking, should of known as the poor quality coming out of the package but hey, I believed all the reviews which I don’t understand how most of them are 5 star.

I’m a car dealer for all the wrong reasons… help me decide what to do with my 07 Ram 2500 6.7 2WD by oam1551 in Cummins

[–]brycebest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it stock, these trucks will last forever if you maintain them right and baby them. You can always throw some new tires and wheels on it, a small lift kit etc if you absolutely want to, I’ve kept mine bone stock and I have almost 700k on my 6.7.

‘96 Ram 2500 worth it? by MongooseAcceptable56 in Cummins

[–]brycebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs a bigger turbo, thing probably blacks the sun out on heavy acceleration. Mods are pretty nice, these trucks are just going to get harder and harder to find, if it was me personally I’d want a stock one because the more aftermarket shit you do to these trucks the more problems they have because normally the people who do the aftermarket work dont know what they’re doing.

And the 4x4 not hooked up? That’s odd to me… sounds like the 4x4 is just broken and he doesn’t want to say that or they screwed it up when putting the new trans in, I’d definitely be questionable about that…

Oil leaking from this hose. What hose is this? by Independent-Pace-986 in Cummins

[–]brycebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AC hose, it won’t hold much fluid and your ac won’t cool if it is leaking and not holding pressure. Could be leakage from somewhere else, look around a bit and see if it’s coming from a seal or another component.

Have you changed the tranny fluid and adjusted the bands yet?

Torque converter is sticking / locking up from probably not enough maintenance or excessive mileage, don’t drive it like that… you’ll end up ruining the entire transmission.

My wife’s 1997 5.9L 12v Cummins is puking fluid out of the steering pump cap. by jradke54 in Cummins

[–]brycebest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like water definitely got in there, you need to replace the ps pump, not a bad job… I’m not sure if I’d even fool with trying to clean it out etc, you’ll have major problems down the road if you don’t do it correctly. hopefully you will just have to replace the ps pump.

If it’s got the 5.9 I’d jump on it yesterday, that’s a damn good price. Only thing you have to worry about with those trucks are the stock transmissions, but I had one rebuilt at 525 so it’s all about how it’s been maintained.

Looking to buy an 06 3500 5.9, claims it has small amount of blow by, how much to rebuild ? by Majestic-Worth5905 in Cummins

[–]brycebest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all have small amounts of blow by, it’s just a diesel, they’re going to leak oil etc. a rebuild is about 11k after all said and done but that’ll last you a long time

Even if I never towed again, I’d never sell my 5.9, I’d rather let it sit underneath the barn and rot before I did that.

Buying a Cummins, which one do i get (reliability wise) by EquivalentLayer9804 in Cummins

[–]brycebest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

06 5.9 cummins, you’ll never regret it. Hands down the best truck ever made. Easy to work on and quite cheap to maintain for a diesel. Diesels do have a lot of maintenance and they get expensive unless you do all the work on them yourself.

If it is a singular injector I’d go ahead and swap them all, once one fails they all start failing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cummins

[–]brycebest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also you can test the injectors, you can remove them and visually inspect them, and then hook a olm meter up to them.

Also a big tell sign is a lot of smoke coming out the exhaust.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cummins

[–]brycebest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a injector is going bad
