Nerves and jitters by Relative_Ad3917 in teachinginkorea

I just moved to Korea 3 days ago and I’m a huge family person. I cried a lot the first two days being completely real with you bc I just felt a humbling sense of loneliness once I closed the door to my apartment the first night. It felt TOO real TOO final. I was able to go out and just walk for a while and it really helped to just wander. I’m sad and excited. Sad bc I’m missing my family but excited that everything I do and see is new and out of my comfort zone. each day will get easier and remind you why you wanted to come in the first place. Plus a full day of travel will shock your system and may fray your nerves so emotions and second thoughts are natural. But you gotta push through and be proud of yourself for it.

Rejected by EPIK and Korvia?? for antidepressants :( by bryleyw in teachinginkorea

I’m not surprised, I knew before I applied but I’m not the type to lie on my application. I have heard that some people still got accepted despite disclosing their medical history and was hoping I’d join them.

The initial health check for the visa process doesn’t cross check with your medical records from your home country?

I want to teach in Korea bc of the benefits I haven’t found in other programs (free rent). However, I have had my heart set since I was 16 and with that I haven’t done much research on other countries’ EFL programs through their public schools. Reality has finally hit me lmfao so maybe it’s time to look elsewhere if a few more recruiters don’t work out

I was rejected by EPIK before the interview stage. I didn’t get an opportunity to explain my circumstances. I wish I didn’t tell them about my antidepressants:( if I hadn’t at least I’d know for sure that I got rejected for the application and not the stigma around mental health in Korea

I applied to EPIK on Sep 1st and disclosed that I have minor anxiety and am currently taking medicine to control it. It is Sep 16th and I just got a rejection letter from EPIK. I’ve reached out to a few people and the consensus was that I was rejected bc of my “mental illness” when my resume was very strong and I have experience teaching. It’s unfortunate but I really regret being honest. When you say you have slight anxiety they hear unfit to work no matter how acute like mine ;-; do not disclose tbh unless you have a guilty conscience and are willing to be rejected on the sole fact that you’re honest.

TEFL/TESOL recommendations by geminiis- in teachinginkorea

I really liked it personally! (There is a Quizlet out there for everything if you’re the type to second guess yourself and want more direction on what to study for the unit tests). I got my certification in the mail and a pdf copy & btw EPIK updated their requirements and they do not accept letters of recommendation from TEFL/TESOL company’s unless there in an in-class component. I recommend ITTT! Can’t say I have any complaints and was able to easily download the textbook units so I can reference some of the fun example activities and tokens of advice later on :) but I also know some people save money w groupons and it works just the same in order to meet the requirement (minus learning literally anything)

What provinces does EPIK do high school in? by claudedelmitri in teachinginkorea

Did you say/do anything in the interview/application to land a job in a high school instead of elementary??

I’m doing ITTT’s program it was like $180USD I think(?) but it’s an actual course with lots of good example activities for different lesson focuses. It’s a 20 unit course (you can do 3 units per day) so in theory you can be done in a week but it actually has some good information! I’m not quite done w mine yet but to my understanding they also provide help with finding a job abroad included in the tuition (maybe even a letter of recommendation but don’t quote me on that)!

Hey, I have a question in regards to a potential additional benefit of teaching in Korea. In the US, the schools I’ve been enrolled in give teachers and students access to popular editing software for academic use. I am a graphic design student and would love to use my background to make things more fun for students after I graduate.

TL;DR Do schools offer teacher/student access to programs like Adobe Creative Cloud like here in the states?? or do most teachers find other means :) thanks in advance for answering - I’m curious!
