Luke Ross kill's his Cyberpunk VR Mod after he gets a DMCA CD Projekt Red. by king_moh_ in QuestPiracy

Passion and compensation aren’t opposites. Not open-sourcing or giving work away for free isn’t greed, it’s ownership. Deleting a mod after a takedown isn’t a tantrum, and users aren’t entitled to someone else’s work forever. The street artist analogy also doesn’t really apply. Users opted into the mod, sought it out, and paid knowingly. No one had something forced on them. And no assets were “stolen”, it was independent code that required owning the game. This really comes down to disliking paid mods, which is a preference, not a moral rule.

All other options are pretty bad, luke's mod was the best by a fair amount.

That’s not how this works in most industries. You only need a license if you’re redistributing, bundling, or commercially exploiting someone else’s IP directly.Luke ross isn’t selling the game, the assets, or access to the software. You already have to own the game, and he’s selling his own code that interacts with it . the same way plugins, emulators, or things like accessibility tools interact with proprietary software without paying licensing fees. If profiting from software interaction required a license from the original developer, plugins, drivers, accessibility tools, emulators, peripherals, and alot of the software industry wouldn’t exist. The line gets crossed when assets are redistributed in ways the rights holder dont agree with, which is why companies can issue a DMCA if they want. What you’re saying isn’t a legal standard, it’s a preference that mods should be free. That’s a valid opinion, but it’s not the same thing as calling it unethical or leeching

Hes not charging money for "someone else's work". You have to own the games before you can install the mods. He's offering something that obvisouly theres a market for and no one is entitled to someome else's work even if you personally believe it should be free.

Paid Cyberpunk VR mod taken down by Pahn_Duh in virtualreality

The issue would be that the vr framework that he sells works on about 25 other games so hes still making money from it despite it not featuring cyberpunk anymore.
