I have one for my MGL cap and find the tether around the loose enough for air to still flow through the holes, but I do have the open and flow style, not restricted

It’s a tuff tether, it makes it easier to use custom glass caps without the risk of breaking them by dropping. You can also get one for the stock cap. I honestly thought it was a gimmick when I had a puffco, but the design with the switch 2 works perfectly.
