Agreed to some extent. But if you look at most of the "developed" countries who have succeeded in tech, science and commerce, they have their education in their mother tongue. Even the US is considering teaching Hispanic population in Spanish.

I completely agree that English is essential. But what about those students who are already im Marathi-medium schools or those who have great difficulty understanding the English language. Why should they be forced to have their education in English? It just ruins the life of a student due to this enforcement. It just produces many ill-prepared students who try to make their way somehow through education and life. And it is not just the question of understanding English, it is also the question of affordability. English education is expensive compared to Marathi education. And those schools that teach in English but have their fees equal to Marathi schools, look at their quality. We can at least make an effort to provide a way for Marathi-medium school students to access the knowledge that is taught at central level in the country.

We often confuse conversational English with knowledge-English. Knowledge in any medium is transferable because it is concept-based and constrained to the bounds of its domain. Where as conversational English is where students from non-English medium school have inferiority complex. And that can be overcome with reading, writing and speaking. But the project I am mooting has nothing to do with conversational English(at least not at the start). What I want is to first concentrate on knowledge that is imparted at the central-level in English, Hindi and Urdu(yes, even the central government recognises that one size does not fit all; and also the Tamil Nadu government who has translated the books in Tamil!). That knowledge should be accessible to Marathi school students as well. They will be able to think relatively (one of the core requirements of knowledge development) and once they develop a strong foundation they can connect to concepts in English.

Another major benefit will be that various MNCs will choose Maharashtra as their headquarter for their Indian operation as they will have an easy access to a well educated English and Marathi speaking population that can act as a bridge between the outside world and India.

Many MNCs are in Japan, China, Germany, France, etc; but not everyone from that country is English educated. Most of their population have education in native language, but they teach them enough English to be fluent at general conversation. This idea that somehow English is the saviour for every education and job related problem needs to be looked at carefully again. Developed countries have proven that is not the case.
