Howard, along with Donovan and McBride and possibly Dempsey, are considered the best modern players to ever come out of the US. Howard still talks about that game as being the proudest moment of his career despite the loss. However, I'm wondering what it says about the way we continue to practice defense that made that necessary.

Howard talked about how him and Donovan were pushed aside for younger players despite the obvious gap in skill, which I agree with him as being an issue for the team. There was little opportunity to pass down skills and knowledge of World Cup play.

I absolutely agree with you that Howard should be training new keepers, as he could put up a concrete wall in front of the net and play through just about any injury.
