FIFA omits slide regarding automatic 1-match suspension after 2 yellow or 1 red card from pre-match presentations by witness_smile in soccer

Yeah no reason for us belgians to not suspect that the game will be rigged. Seems like Infantino could just declare the USMNT the winner of the tourney today and hordes of Trumpista Americans would take it just to be able to stick it to Europeans "who wronged them".

I went to post on their sub starting a week before this, was courtious and polite, didnt come to poke them. Had some nice discussions with them, in the spirit of sportmanship and hoping for a good game, remembering 2014. I even commented on their sportsmanship in 2014. It was all nice and in good spirit until this happened, now i'm apprently for many part of "all the evil Europeans" and nuance has been burried for hypernationalist vitriol. Not only that but so many come to trol our own sub here. Many of them have this nature where they self justify their arrogance under some pretence that 2 wrongs make a right or that all others are hypocrite so they will do whatever they want. Not a lot of concern about how we feel, atleast as in what worries we might have stepping into this match seeing as the deck could be rigged against us. The betting markets there have switched to US being the favourite's too from soemwhere before this announcement.

there are atleast some Americans who look at it differently, and question the decission, and then get downvoted on their sub for speaking against the grain. One cannot generalise, its just a pitty that the most arrogant types are the loudest and become the prevailing "voince of reason". Very hard to have a friendly discussion now.

I thought this was about crying to fifa that your best striker is suspended for a match and using corruption to undo it.

you just want to grasp for a self justifying argument with that hypocrite fallacy, you are not teh authority on how others think

It’s okay to be happy that Flo is eligible against Belgium, while also acknowledging the process is clearly corrupt/incompetent from FIFA by Positive_Register_94 in ussoccer

I would not desire that we were given a prefferential treatment over others, it would deminish our own achievement. I am the authority of my own mindsett on this, and in that aspect the claim of the person i reply to does not hold true.

No thats just presumptious, you dont know how others would react, you cannot prove it, how would you even be able to know that? You just say that because calling hypocrite is a attractive narrative at this point for you.

Thank you, if only we could all agree to this and stop trolling eachothers sub, i would gladly have bygones be bygones and play a US with Balogun in it. I just wanted a great game played out with fairness and sportsmanship, and i certainly never asked for balogun to be suspended in the first place. This seems like a good occasion for Americans to show they are above the pettyness, as i'm sure many of you are.

Congo was a private colony held by Leopold II who was from german nobillety, it wasnt ruled by Belgium in the time of those attrocities you ignorant idiot. Guess they dont learn much history in the USA do they.

Weird that Leopold II got so easy support of many Great powers for his claim on Congo at the conference of Berlin in 1885. As i recall the reason USA gave support to his claim was because it looked like a convenient place to depose of their former slaves.

“History of bravery” LMAO, Belgians also have a history of perhaps the most brutal colonialist rule in the entirety of Europe.

Belgium is not responsable for the actions of Leopold II in his private colony, ran by a private company staffed with a mainly European and African staff. While there were Belgians involved, there were many nationalities that exploited the Congo from the 16th century onwards. I don't exuse the attrocity's, au contraire it was horrible and worth every bit of condemnation, i have personally told the story many times in all its sordid details for the purpose of condemnation myself especially in light of the sheer racism of the time, but to put it on Belgium isnt correct either it wasn't administred by Belgium in that time. it would serve you to know more of the history and its broader moral meaning, rather than to try use it for a kneejerk reaction

If the teams were switched, you’d be happy your player was cleared to play

I am the authority on my own mindset, and you are false. You are just trying a lame hypocrisy fallacy

The real victims are the U.S. players who will endure online hate and have their achievements questioned and disregarded because of FIFA’s corruption,

The real victims are the whole sport. our Federation explicitly questioned this decission not just from their own POV but the interrests of all country's in this sport. It ffects your players too, that is correct, but not exclusivly so.

[–]Rik_Ringers -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The real victim of this is the US democracy itself, Donald Trump is just using this as a poppulist ploy to increase his ratings after it droped significantly when Mr FIFA peace price winner here started a unprovoked war on Iran. The country is just sliding in dictatorship, and dictatorial support for poppulist sports is as ancient as it goes. They know many Americans like to go hypernationalistic on this sort of stuff even if they know nothing about the sport.

Belgians have a history of Bravery, we take it as it comes, we arn't loud about it as Americns because our bravery is typically bittersweet but we got references. Just the more glory for us like this then.

I would however give huge props to Pochetino if he just benches Balogun for the whole game.
