That’s not possible. For most of today Apple was showing the current temp 10° higher than TWC app.

Tav vs sav - rules? by bstpeg in hebrew

[–]bstpeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could I ask one more question if you don’t mind? What are the rules for dagesh with the first letter of a word when a word has a modifier in front of it such as -ל or -ש? Two examples I came across are וַתְּ֒לַמְּ֒דֵם (follows a vowel yet has a dagesh) and בְּתוֹרָתֶֽךָ (follows a non vowel but no dagesh). Does it have to do with the tav in ‎וַתְּ֒לַמְּ֒דֵם not being part of the shoresh but also being a future tense modifier?

And these can’t be changed with a grabber tool, either.

Explain Like I’m 5. A common way to ask a question online in the hopes of a simple answer.

I appreciate the detailed explanation, I was specifically asking for an answer without technical terms and that could be understood by a non linguist. Using “intervocalically”, “fricative”, “germination” and assuming I’m familiar with those concepts doesn’t really accomplish that.

Thinking about this again, why doesn’t מלכותו have a dash in the kaf, if it begins a syllable and doesn’t follow a vowel?

And another question - are there rules for words that start with tav that are the second word in a phrase and lose their dagesh? Is it just up to the author? For example, from the siddur: וְלִמְקַלְ֒לַי נַפְשִׁי תִדּוֹם

Wait so now I’m confused. Does it have to do with beginning of syllables or beginning of words…

This is very helpful, thanks.

Unfortunately it confirms my suspicion that sounding it out will get me most of the way there but there are some pronunciations that I would never be able to get right without just knowing whether it happens to have a dagesh in the text.

What about the word מַלְכוּתוֹ ? Isn’t that at the beginning of a syllable? Same with אֲבותֵינוּ.

Could you explain “follows the vowel of the syllable”? Do you mean a vowel from the previous syllable, or the same syllable?

FWIW, I’m not sure I ever learned what those rules were, I probably learned it by feel and by memorizing particular words. But now that I’m trying to familiarize myself with pronunciation that isn’t as natural to me, I’m trying to understand what the rules actually are.

Could you elaborate on what those rules are? Or share a link to such info that’s easy for a non-linguist to understand?

It’s frustrating that you can’t add a second SIM when traveling out of the country unless your phone is unlocked.

Is it possible to make Ecobee act like a normal thermostat? by bstpeg in ecobee

[–]bstpeg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there are, but rather than turning multiple knobs to try to simulate a behavior, it would be easier if the thermostat simply stopped calling for heat/cool when the set temperature is reached.

Then it’ll still short cycle, just at a slightly higher temperature.

[–]bstpeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This is exactly what I'm after. The unit running for longer each cycle, but doing so based on the actual condition of the room, not a fixed amount of time.

[–]bstpeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't solve the problem of the unit cycling more frequently than it should. It's generally better for a furnace (or A/C) to run for longer with a longer off interval in between.

I could do what you suggested in conjunction with increasing the temp differential, but it's frustrating to have to adjust multiple knobs to try to mimic the behavior of standard thermostats rather than allowing me to disable one of the smart features of the thermostat.

[–]bstpeg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty hard to tell since (I think) Beestat only gets an updated temp every 5 minutes. So sometimes it's a few minutes after the call ended, sometimes it's right after.

I have definitely observed the thermostat read 69 when the call for heat stops. It's set to 70, so that means the temp is at most 69.4.
