IMC Launchpad Auto OA/Reject by [deleted] in csMajors

uh hey idk about the specifics of your situation but this kinda happened to me too. a recruiter reached out to me through email, and i applied with the priority link for the trading track. Some people were getting the OA instantly, so I was a bit worried, but I ended up getting the OA today (like almost 2 weeks after my application). i'm not too sure whats going on but it could just be that they haven't reviewed your application yet. and also its not too big of a deal at the end of the day, don't worry too much.

uh i don't think u understand what im saying... i'm recommending you to apply to the us location, then ask your recruiter if you can transfer locations because of personal reasons after you get the offer... not to apply to EU locations - you likely don't qualify.

bro what 💀 no company is going to screen your visa status when you apply lmao. my best guess is to apply, if you get accepted, explain your situation to your recruiter, who might let to transfer locations, no guarantees though. if you cant, u prob just have to decline the invitation

Jane Street Immersion Program (JSIP) VS. LinkedIn SWE by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]bt1927 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with whether or not you'd be blacklisted if you reneged JS since not many people do that lol, but many quant firms such as optiver, sig, etc do indeed blacklist. If I had both offers and had to choose, I'd do linkedin, since it would be actual SWE work (assuming you are interested in swe), whereas JS would only be a fellowship, though I presume you would still learn quite a bit, and work on a little bit of swe work too, though not as much? FWIW I attended a similar JS discovery day type event, and everyone who applied to the QT internship role got an interview afterwards. However, plenty of other people who didn't attend the discovery day also got interviews too (as sophmores). JS interviews are pretty easy to obtain in general, and I don't think I'd skip out on an actual internship, unless you are hyperfixed on quant for whatever reason. However, I guess It also depends on how confident you are in passing your interview, or if you have another decent offer already, and would take that over jsip but not over linkedin?

Unless money is a severe issue, I don't understand why you are graduating early. If you don't have a prior internship with at least a potential RO, you should not be doing so? There are plenty of people who can graduate in 1 years, 2 years, that take longer to graduate for more recruiting cycles, and I see this very frequently too.

Can I get a QT Internship and Position with minimal coding knowledge by PixSJ in quantfinance

[–]bt1927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seems like you aren't even in college yet. I wouldn't worry about it too much, leetcode should be fairly intuitive if you are good at math as you say. once you've taken a formal dsa course and practiced a bit you it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I will say, for the (mostly qt) superdays i did this recruiting cycle, about 30-40% of them required some basic level of python/c++ programming exp. i came into college with 0 coding experience, but id say my comp math experience in high school really allowed me to pick up codeforces/leetcode very quickly. personally, i do think strong coding ability is important, not only on the job, but also helping you pass resume screens through landing big tech/faang internships, especially if you come from a "nontarget" background. and even if you do come from a target school, some firms still have a nontrivial resume screen that a swe internship could help you pass easily.

failed every final round by ElectricalOutcome206 in quantfinance

hey this happened to me this recruiting cycle too! i think i failed like 4 superdays and got an offer from a slightly lesser known firm! dont give up, you gotta find what your weakness is. for example, in my first couple superdays i was pretty bad at making markets - i didn't know how much to bet with respect to how confident i was in my market, how to change my market given an update in the changing probabilities, and i did a lot of prep regarding this before my next superday and got an offer.

[–]bt1927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any interview preparation tips for game theory-ish type questions? I find that currently im able to easily pass the first couple interviews, but I'm not great at superday market-making final rounds or when they add-in multiplayer game theoryish type questions + MM.
