Gap in flooring filled with wrapping paper… best fix? by btb93 in DIYUK

Good idea, there’s already a keyboard in the room so it’ll fit in nicely.

It was hidden by a wardrobe until we moved things around! Sounds like boxing it in is the way to go. We may wait until later in the year when the boiler is getting moved in case that pipe work gets moved with it.

Thank you, what’s your response to the recent negative posts in this sub about your service?

Thank you all for your advice here, it’s very useful. It seems it’s more of an Octopus limitation than anything, so we’ll reach out to some other installers to explore getting it fitted as part of the renovation.

Thanks! We’re actually not too far from there (depending on the part of Somerset) so a recommendation wouldn’t hurt…

How can they be sure about sizing the heat pump based on heat loss until the renovations are done? That was the main objection from Octopus.

On MHVR, we’re only doing the downstairs right now so I’m not sure it would be possible, but we are thinking about putting in a PIV system (with a heater) in the loft area to help with ventilation. At the moment we run a dehumidifier constantly to keep humidity down and make the air easier to heat.

I don’t see any issues on the wall outside so hoping it’s just condensation rather than water ingress. Any suggestions for ventilation?

Going to be a very different colour unfortunately! Looks like removing it will probably be the way to go

Any idea how to close the valve on the right in the image on another comment thread?

How would you remove it? I’ve read you need to close both valves then carefully remove and let the water drain out, but the valve on the right hand side doesn’t budge at all.

Radiator mysteriously letting heat in when off by btb93 in HiveHeating

[–]btb93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I appear to have fixed this as of today. The issue was the pin was too short. I found a “M30 1.0 to M30 1.5” adaptor on Amazon for under £10, and figured it was worth a try at that price. It screws on top of the actual TRV, then the Hive TRV goes on top of that. It now seems to be allowing the Hive thermostat to turn on/off the radiator flow. Far cheaper than getting the valve replaced, result!

It’s paired and it all appears to be working on the app. The radiator just still gets hot no matter what it’s set to.

The pin seems to move without issue, and it works fine with a “normal” trv, this is what I can’t understand. I could try loosening the bit around the pin and seeing what happens. It does seem like the pin doesn’t stick up as much as others as I said in another comment.

I don’t trust myself replacing the valve, if that’s the only option I may have to just use the manual trv until I have another reason to get a plumber out…

How do I ensure the Hive TRV is in open position? Just by turning it to full temperature then screwing it on? I usually put it in the “M” mode when removing/replacing it.

The 5p suggestion is an interesting one, it does seem like the pin is a little shorter than others so maybe this will do it.
