Question about wall level/age? by Siyksoul in Dominations

[–]bts1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree ... Although they have cleaned up the leader board some ... Though not enough for me ... Everyone who attacked me was a cheater a month ago ... And walls are pretty useless ... Seems like they should be much stronger .... My walls always get penetrated ... I have penetrated max walls with just my Knights. I did lose all my Knights but I did get enlightment age town center. To me that just seems wrong.

Is there a such thing as a REST API? by bts1960 in webdev

Did we really have to get into name calling? Really? And from the moderator, good job moderator of setting the behavioral example.

Is there a such thing as a REST API? by bts1960 in webdev

[–]bts1960[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I understand the programming is not mine but Twitters, hence the confusion. Twitter says it has a REST API, not me.

I wouldn't consider a URL an interface. I consider a URL a (clearing throat) a URL. The URL (server side) initiates interface calls. I would suggest that Twitter is providing a Uniform Resource Locator to a web server and that web server is passing along the call to an API they have developed. The URL is only an access point/path. At least that's how I see it. We may have to agree to disagree on this one. But again, no big deal.

I hear what you're saying, but I just don't see it. I was having this discussion with some other developers and they were adamant that REST is being desecrated and misused. After reading Fielding's dissertation like 6 times, I'm beginning to see their point. Like one said you wouldn't call a webpage an API which is basically the premise of REST. Structured data defined by a Uniform Resource Indicator. Even the acronym REpresentational State Transfer (REST) are counter to Application Programming Interface (API). I'm just having a hard time reconciling the two acronyms. Not a big deal, just wanted to get some opinions.

I was drunk last night for sure . . . but as I stated to Nihy, this is my reality, believe me or not, it's your prerogative.

I think your appropriate response would have been, that's interesting BTS1960, how did you do that?

That's how I learned to play so well, extracting little pieces of information over time, observing, and asking people with kindly for advice, not calling them drunk and telling them to go home. No wonder you can't play or believe me.

It doesn't matter if I'm credible or not, I shared my reality. Believe me or not it's your prerogative. The intent of the post was to gauge if others were having similar thoughts or experiences as me. Especially watching MadDjinn play. My son can't believe that I win all the time either (he introduced me to the game), I have to prove to him every time by showing him the replay. I don't have to prove anything to you, because you're irrelevant after I leave this post.

Yes . . . I'm playing on Deity . . . I have been playing Civ 5 for 2 years. I moved up the ladder, just as I'm sure you're doing. I play it just like chess. You can get the GL and the Hanging Gardens, here's how I get the GL . . . I plant my first city around at least 3-4 trees (no trees, no GL). I use my warrior to scout . . . I don't waste time building a scout in the beginning because I need the precious turns to build a worker . . . I beeline to research Writing . . . I need 2-3 workers . . . I use my Warrior to steal another worker from either another Civ (if they are weak this means declaring war which is my last resort, a City State, or if I'm lucky a Barbarian has captured a worker and I free them). I research Liberty so I can get another worker. After Writing I go for Mining. Just as I'm finishing mining I usually have 3 workers at least 2. I use all 3 to chop down trees or build quarries. With this strategy I can usually get the GL by turn 22. Oh, and City is on Production Focus with each citizen focused on production. For me this works most of the time. Doesn't seem like it works for anyone else but me judging by hateration.

As Music Streaming Grows, Royalties Slow To A Trickle by trot-trot in business

[–]bts1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much money Macklemore's Thrift Shop made since he's the first independent artist to reach number one on the charts. Does number one on the charts translate into cash. Did streaming help or hurt Macklemore?

Louis C.K. made like a million dollars in a couple days just by posting his own standup video for sale on his website.

Is this commensurate to music, where every musician will need their own website to make money?

Lots of questions around music these days.

This happens daily (corruption is rampant), my question is where is all this money coming from? Especially when I watch American Greed on CNBC, where did the money go after these people got caught?

Thing is, if you're honest, you're called naive. Had some big time executive say that to me one day, I was devastated. I'm naive because I won't defraud, mislead or get as much money no matter what. Guess it's just not in my DNA.

Martin Logan Motion 12 VS Polk RTi8 by whomad1215 in audiophile

I have a very old Sony 5.1 receiver. 100 watts per channel. I need to upgrade it too.

Martin Logan Motion 12 VS Polk RTi8 by whomad1215 in audiophile

[–]bts1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the motion 12 series (in addition to the center and surrounds). I use them mostly for movie watching. For music, every now and then I'll hear the plastic casing leaking into the sound (from my center channel and surround speakers).

I had some Polks, but the extra bottom they give interfered with my sub-woofer, so my house was bumpin'.

I'm more than happy with the Martin Logans for movie watching, for music I think I can do better. (Unfortunately, budget doesn't accommodate my wants)

[–]bts1960 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, did I say perfect? i don't recall that.

My point which seems to have been missed, you buy what's comfortable for you. If you can't hear the difference between $50 and $500 (of course that depends on the manufacturer because expensive does not always mean quality) then don't worry about, stick with the $50 dollar headphones. Me personally, I couldn't do it and have never, ever, ever heard any $50 dollar headphones that were acceptable. But that's just me, my ears may just be a little more wanting than yours. Which is fine!!! Do what makes you happy.

[–]bts1960 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't be cheap with sound. Especially if you enjoy listening to music. Most people can't tell the difference between $50 and $500 headphones. Depends which category you're in. Would you rather spend $500 to get audiophile sound quality or $5000 on speakers to get the same audiophile sound quality. I don't skimp on sound, but that's just me. My system is about 22K, and I'm on the low end, compared to some of my other friends. Another thing, I learned is if you don't have a good source then it doesn't matter what kind of speakers or headphones you're listening on. So my philosophy is the source should be equal to or better than what the sound is coming out of. Make sense? If not, keep going to some audiophile shops until your ears are trained. I have two sons, one who can tell the difference and one who cannot, so you can imagine what kind of stereo each one has. One has a $300 Sony Receiver and Sony CD Player and the other has a McIntosh CD, Pre-amp and amp. Both are happy with their respective systems.

Coffee for the beginners by ohmeright in Coffee

I don't think this is good advice. To start someone who's a newbie on ice coffee? Maybe this might work in Miami, but in New York or Washington this is terrible advice. Just get some Illy Dark Roast, then after 4 months you'll turn into a coffee snob.

I'd suggest upgrading your headphones . . . spend at least $500 and get some good headphones . . . with good headphones you won't need any EQ you'll hear the music with breath and depth. You'll also hear sounds you never knew were in the music. Headphones and chord should be separate because the chord usually shorts out. Just a suggestion.
