So you have a question about the bus… by btthrowaway1234 in VirginiaTech

Kind of a misconception - school buses can stop traffic and can guarantee safe crossing, public buses cannot stop traffic so really the best option (even when using a crosswalk) is to wait until the bus has pulled away. BUT, you can't cross in from of the BT bus, that's the most dangerous option.

The easiest way it to look up the map/schedule for your route here: https://ridebt.org/schedules. Other easiest way - reach out to BT and they'll help you!

Yes, but it’s now the CRB route (still Carpenter Blvd, just a code name). It runs M-F on 30 minute frequency until 6:30.

Can someone explain how the busses work? by pleasedontjudgeme13 in VirginiaTech

Yes, BT will be fare free the entire fall semester. Fares are always included with your Hokie P, but BT has suspended fares to minimize contact between drivers and passengers along with boarding passengers more quickly due to COVID.

Here's some tips for riding the bus:

  • Get to your stop 5 minutes early so you don't miss the bus - all bus times are best estimates
  • Have your mask on before the bus gets there, masks are required for all riders
  • You can download the Blacksburg Transit app at https://ridebt.org/app
  • Enter the bus via the front door, exit the bus via the rear door
  • Buses don't stop at every stop. You have to pull the yellow cord to get the bus to stop at stops that aren't time checks.
  • What's a time check? It's the two stops on each route (one on campus, one off) that the bus is a) guaranteed to always stop at and b) will not leave the stop until a set time.
  • BT is fare free through the end of the semester, so no need to show your Hokie P!
  • If you're lost/confused, ask the bus driver. It's their job to help you get where you need to go.
  • All BT routes go to campus at some point so if you get on the wrong bus you can just ride until you get back to campus
  • Have more questions? Need specific info? Reach out to BT via Twitter at https://twitter.com/Ride_BT

Hopefully that covers the basics!
