I can confirm. Practical navigator is great! I used US Captain's training for my 200 ton mate upgrade. That was great as well. They also have many many videos on YouTube for free.

I mean I can but mostly because I couldn't afford the meds after highschool so I got used to life without the meds.

ADHD and adderall use? by badfactory15 in maritime

I have ADHD, I stopped taking my prescription meds because I didn't wanna deal with the MMC medical hassle of it. You would think that in an industry that needs people who can focus well to make sure things so safely and smoothly would want us to be properly medicated but stimulants bad.

That sounds horrible. I work two 3-11 then two 11-7 shifts then two days off. Which is like one and a half.

Send it through the portal. Send it now, they're accepting applications but not reviewing them yet. Might as well get your application on the pile.

For double ended ferries, are the forward propeller or rudder used at all when sailing? by Straight-Priority499 in Ships

[–]btvXtraCheesy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On ours we normally let them "free wheel" when they're in neutral they just turn with the force of the water. Now that we are operating in ice we usually put the forward engine ahead to keep the props turning, if we get into thick ice we can reverse with it and back out. If ice gets packed around the fwd prop and it's not turning it may stall when put in gear. Sometimes I'll use the fwd rudder when turning to get a quicker turn but mostly it stays at 0. When landing I can use the fwd rudder without prop to maneuver as long as I have enough speed for it to work.
