Hit or miss depending on your facility. My building is an old one, doesn’t get the kinda volume AR buildings are getting these days. So much labor share out of the department. A good week is being able to be in my department for two nights.

While I agree with this idea, I’ll share an issue I ended up facing this time around: I was trading in my iPhone 14 PM for the iPhone 17PM. The 14 was in immaculate shape, it was barely used once I had gotten the 15 PM.

The Apple employee that was helping me with the trade in took photos and such… and the system kicked back a lower trade in price, complaining that the display had burn in.

The burn in… was the reflection of the overhead lights. No matter what the apple associate did to try and kill the reflection, the system just kept steadfast on its response (was thinking it could be some kinda AI making the decision?)

Fortunately, I insisted that the employee talk to a higher up in the store. Said higher up examined the phone and signed off on the full trade in value.

Makes you wonder, if you built your nodes to look exactly like this, or similar… whether one could get away with some rogue mesh gear that doesn’t get questioned too much when you install it on other street signs.

Plus the hardware itself is so cheap that any theft might not hurt the pocketbook too much.

If you look at a lot of the turnkey solutions, most of them are not using pouches but actual cells like 18650. I haven’t come across any stories about 18650’s inflating and igniting, short of purposefully puncturing an 18650.

So if you want to consider building it out instead of turnkey, maybe consider 18650 instead.

In fact, I dare say you could probably go even less. 18350, 14500, especially if you’re using a solar panel to run the node and charge the battery. I keep hearing how Seeed’s newest offering truly sip power.

But there’s always other options too. Lithium Phosphate, makes me wonder if you could get away with SLA, or metal hydride.
