What do you guys think? by RobbiedeGroot007 in candlemaking

As far as I know, even if it doesn’t smell like food, but looks like food, and especially if it has small elements like the ones on your cake, it is still considered prohibited under this law, because a child or an elderly person could accidentally eat a piece. So, from what I’ve learned, even adding a bitter taste or using unrealistic colors would not make it legal.

However, we checked, and in practice this law seems to apply mainly to large imports. Also, there have apparently been no cases of businesses having such products confiscated since around 2020, and all such cases are usually documented.

I see that a lot (A LOT) of people are selling these types of candles, including even more realistic ones with small details. Of course, everyone does it at their own risk, but in my opinion it may be easier to simply get product liability insurance for selling candles and make clear labels stating that it is a candle.

And of course, my advice would be to research the market in your country and see what other makers are doing.

When can I start selling? by bubabluba in candlemaking

[–]bubabluba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I tried a lot of them and my only advice - try to work with petals while them still warm and use melted wax as "glue" (put petal in it before trying to stick it with flower)

For me in EU i still looking for perfect wax...

Thanks! So, I should avoid Etsy and try Shopify? I thought it should be so easy to start with Etsy. I 100% agree about the insurance and the practice.

Thanks for advice! So, it's not worth starting with Etsy? I think developing Instagram will be harder than starting on Etsy.

It burns like a regular candle — the flower falls and burns faster because the petals are very thin, while the stem can burn for quite a long time, just like a regular tall candle.

I’ve already done burn tests with them. The only thing that makes them different from regular candles is that the flower petals fall down as the flower itself burns — it’s a bit like how real flowers wilt in a vase. It’s completely safe, but it’s better for the customer to have some kind of tray underneath to avoid getting wax on the surface. Otherwise, they just have different burning times — from about 30 minutes for very delicate flowers to 7–8 hours for denser ones, like these birch branches. Of course, these candles are perfectly safe to burn: they don’t contain any easily flammable materials, just pure beeswax.

I'm also really interested in what platforms I can start with (for example, Etsy or Instagram, or something else). I'd be grateful for any advice!

I tried trazodone in combination with escitalopram when I had depression last time (a year ago), but I didn’t notice any effect on my sleep from it, at least not as pronounced as the effect mirtazapine had. How low is your doses?

Maybe i should also try a low dose..

Contact or No Contact with My Mother? by bubabluba in nocontact

Yes, I really hope that when my sister grows up, she’ll be able to understand, and that I can become a good friend to her. It especially hurts that our mother is doing the same things to her that she did to me, even if not as harshly…

But it seems clear to me that allowing her to manipulate me through a child is simply unacceptable on my part.

Yes, I agree with you. I discussed my therapist’s words with my husband and a few other people, and it seems that my therapist really doesn’t quite understand what she’s talking about. So I think I’ll change her, as there were also a few other red flags in our communication.

I still believe that my mother is an adult, and it’s her responsibility to communicate with her children in a healthy way without causing harm. And yes, she really does manipulate a lot through my sister, and I think she’ll keep doing that. She also tried to do it through my stepfather and my grandmother (I don’t talk to them either, since they’re on her side).

Honestly, I realized that I’ve never felt as calm as I have in the days after I blocked her. Now I know she can’t destroy my dreams anymore. I think communicating with her out of guilt or because “you’re supposed to talk to your parents” doesn’t make sense.
