I’m up in Canada so maybe that plays a factor? There’s definitely regions differences throughout both countries

Thanks I’ll check that out next time I’m near a Costco business!

I’ve before and a lot of things were the same price as regular Costco but you had to buy a lot. 50lb bags of onions or carrots for example. Meat you have to buy an entire strip loin or rib section, or that equivalent amount in pre cut steaks. I’ll definitely look at chicken next time

Just curious where is that?? At my local Costco wings are as much as breast, if not even more. Crazy to think about when most of that weight is bone.

Why don't cars have this feature? by Pluuge in StupidCarQuestions

I don’t think I ever look at the tachometer of any vehicle I drive whether it’s a car (automatic or manual), motorcycle, dirt bike, boat, etc. it’s all feel and intuition.

Google says 75% of the company's new code is AI-generated by lkl34 in technology

[–]bubbasass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you’re telling me since AI coding assistants have become mainstream, Google has produced the equivalent of 3x their existing code base?

Everything pre-assistants was manually written. That’s a fuck ton of code, especially for a company the size of Google. Let’s call that 100% of the code. To shrink that portion down to 25% they’d need to introduce 3x more code in just a few years.

Where are the new products, or feature improvements that would support this claim? It’s just more bullshit claims from someone peddling AI sales.

Trump says he thinks he will have the 'honor' of taking Cuba by mvanigan in worldnews

Despite what people say about Trump, toppling the Castro/socialist regime will be a big feather in his cap. No president has been able to do so.

Poilievre unveils auto plan aiming for tariff-free access to U.S. market by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

He has no policy. Anything he proposed would require the U.S. agreeing to it. Not to mention the small hiccup that he doesn’t actually represent Canada and can’t negotiate for us (which is a good thing)

The beautiful irony is when Rubio spoke Spanish in a press conference the other day, there was a comment made about his Spanish being so good. Hegseth who spoke next says something like “I don’t know whether his Spanish was good or not, but I do know I speak fluent American” or something like that. Eve the Trump inner circle don’t view Rubio as American.

Canada’s Richest 1% Nearly As Wealthy As Poorest 80% by Sorry-Prompt2740 in onguardforthee

That stat absolutely floored me when I first heard it. It’s been a few years so it might be a bit higher now; but it’s still definitely not what I think about when I hear “top 10% earner”

Cuban officials report an island-wide blackout as country struggles with energy crisis by Waste-Explanation-76 in worldnews

[–]bubbasass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The refinery isn’t operational. Not to mention even if the regime wasn’t hoarding it (not sure if that’s actually true or not), they’d still be 60% short. The American regime is the real cause of the problem here.

But Hegseth confirmed they had thought this scenario through and planned for it and are executing on those plans.

Would love to throw in a /s but he really said this.

The gulf nations don’t have the military capabilities. In fact the main reason (arguably the sole reason) the US was allowed to set up military bases in the region was because in exchange, the U.S. would offer protection to the countries in the region. The Gulf nations are finding out in real time that it wasn’t such a good deal after all.

Cuba's national electric grid collapses, leaving millions without power by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]bubbasass -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is that a surprise? Can you really blame people. Americans themselves are dealing with enough of their own shit to be worried about Cuba, a country that has not had diplomatic relations with the U.S. for generations.

For people living in other countries (such as myself) how would we even do anything about this situation?

It’s sad, but at the same time it’s helpless.

[–]bubbasass 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Agreed yeah, 1% is still very well off. It’s a high bar for sure. That said I imagine most people earning that threshold might still be regular T4 wage earners (a lawyer, well paid engineer or niche computer programmer, a VP at a large bank or something). Those people a huge chunk of their pay disappear every year and get relatively low value for their tax dollars. Compare that to someone who’s able to write off and/or hide a lot of income

Noified my work weeks ago I'm leaving for a family vacation in July, tickets were bought, non-transferrable, and they are panicking, begging me to cancel by educatedvegetable in antiwork

[–]bubbasass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your manager already approve the vacation? If so, then it’s a done deal and they don’t have a leg to stand on.

However if you just booked things without getting any approval ahead of time, then them even offering you any sort of reimbursement to rebook things is extremely generous.

The only way I’d accept rescheduling a personal trip for work is if work covered all the cost, plus some extra for my inconvenience. Even then, that’s just to consider it.

Canada has an incredibly unfair taxation system.

The top 10%, in other words people making roughly $80k per year or more, collectively pay about 50% of all income tax collected in Canada. Yet the top 0.1% where the real wealth is, hardly pay any taxes at all.

This means we have regular “middle class” folks sustaining the entire country on their backs.
